Baseball sources said the Phillies, who had been lurking on the periphery, jumped into the process with fervor after the winter meetings in Florida last week.

The Phillies previously acquired Lee from Cleveland at the July 2009 non-waiver deadline, and Lee posted a 7-4 record with a 3.39 ERA during the regular season before helping lead Philadelphia to a World Series appearance against the Yankees. Lee went 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA against New York, but the Phillies fell to the Yankees in six games.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. traded Lee to Seattle last December in conjunction with the team's acquisition of Roy Halladay from Toronto, but sources said Lee developed a fondness for his teammates and the city of Philadelphia and would be interested in returning if the Phillies can come up with a package that's competitive with the Yankees and Rangers. If the Phillies were able to pull off a Lee signing, he would join Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels in a dream rotation for Philadelphia.

The Phillies' club policy typically precludes contracts of longer than three years for pitchers, and they held the line with Halladay to three years and $60 million, plus a $20 million vesting option for 2014. Given the length of Lee's other offers, the Phillies might have to break with tradition and offer a deal of at least five years to bring him into the fold.

I hope they hit Soriano/Pena back to back

The Rally Killaz

Soriano and pena had a combined 281 So's last year and Adam dunn had 199 by himself + konerko's 110 they have more k's than the "rally killers"

And dunn and konerko will hit back to back soriano and pena wont

White Sox Sign Reliever Jesse Crain

CHICAGO (CBS) – The White Sox have signed right-handed reliever Jesse Crain.

The Sox signed Crain to a three-year, $13 million contract Wednesday, according to published reports.

Crain made his debut in 2004 with the Minnesota Twins.

Back in 2005 when he made the Major League roster, Crain set a record for the most consecutive wins in relief to begin a career. But he ended up missing most of the 2007 season after being placed on the disabled list and undergoing surgery.

Returning in 2008, Crain later became Twins manager Ron Gardenhire’s go-to pitcher in the eighth inning of close-games, and didn’t allow a run for 35 out of 38 appearances last season.

that's wassup.. White Sox 2011 AL Champs

Cubs get matt garza for a bunch of single A prospects and sam fuld. This what im talkin bout niggas WE BACK, on the low

The Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago Cubs have agreed to a multi-player deal that will bring right-handed pitcher Matt Garza to Chicago, according to a major league source.

The deal, which has been agreed to pending physicals, sends right-handed pitcher Chris Archer, outfielder Brandon Guyer, catcher Robinson Chirinos, shortstop Hak-Ju Lee and outfielder Sam Fuld to Tampa for Garza, a minor-league pitcher and a minor-league outfielder.

Archer, 22, combined to go 15-3 with 2.34 in 28 games between Single-A Daytona and Tennessee, and was the Cubs' 2010 minor league pitcher of the year. Archer was acquired by the Cubs in a trade that sent popular utility man Mark DeRosa to the Cleveland Indians.

Guyer batted .344 with 13 home runs and 58 RBIs for Double-A Tennessee in 2010. The 24-year old was the Cubs' minor league player of the year.

Lee batted .282 and stole 32 bases for Single-A Peoria.

Fuld played in 98 games for the Cubs between 2007-10. He batted .299 in 65 games in '09.

The Cubs and at least three other teams had been negotiating with the Rays about Garza since the December winter meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Garza, 27, is coming off his best season, compiling a 15-10 record with a 3.91 ERA. Garza averaged 6.6 strikeouts and 2.77 walks per nine innings. Hitters batted .248 against Garza in 2010.

Tampa, in the mode of retooling the next few seasons, was willing to trade Garza for top young talent. The Rays were looking to get a shortstop, catcher and some top-caliber young pitching in return for Garza.

Not entirely sure how I feel about this trade. 4 of their top prospects for Garza, who I dont think is that great really. I'm not sure we'll be contending next season any way. He did throw a no hitter last season and is only 27. Maybe the move to the NL will help him. I think the cubs need another bat or at least need their guys to play up to their potential. Carlos Pena will be a decent pick up if he can hit like 250 is and get 30+ homers. Woulda like to have gotten Dunn instead. Hopefully Casro and Colvin can play like they did last season and dont go the way of Corey Patterson

None of the prospects traded were above AA Only one played AA ball for a month they were all single A cats and 2 of em were 26 and sam fuld sucked he was good for the highlight catches and hustle but he'll never be an everyday player and he's 29-30

Brett jackson cubs #1 prospect

Adam dunn is garbage he is the new millennium mark mcgwire except he strikes out 190-200 times a year and cant play D

Aramis will be a fa so he playin for his next contract all he care about is money so his #'s gonna increase just like the last time he was in a contract year

After this season 56-60 million off the payroll cubs can sign whoever they want next winter

If pena dont work then prince fielder is a fa

Cubs dont have dumb redundant piniella no more they got a real manager who does hit and runs and switches the lineup, they might not contend this year but 2012 we comin for that #1 spot
