Do ya'll niggas not understand that "-whats hot" is dictated by what's selling?

Joey Bada$$ sold 58k his first week. Iggy sold 52k and was nominated for a fuckin' grammy and owned radio last year with that garbage.

Let that shit sink in niggas.

Hot in NY or nationwide is this Joey Badass character? lol

A lot of people out here have never and will never hear of him lol. And being hot doesn't always equate to album sales. When Future came out with Pluto and DS1 (around the time of Tony Montana and Same Damn Time) he was hot at the moment but didn't have strong sales. But I guarantee he will sell out your venue. Migos aren't hot, never will be lol....they just make good party music, like Travis Porter and some others.

Ok, so you just arbitrarily picking who is "hot" then. To you migos is "hot" so they should get lots of spins, even though they only sell 12k the first week.

Meanwhile, joey badass gets no spins and sells 58k his first week, but he not "hot." And your sole criteria is what is "played in the clubs."

Don't you see how this makes absolutely no sense?

Migos has a fraction of the sales of lupe or badass but migos is more popular? And you say this with supreme confidence because "radio plays what's popular, hence migos must be popular cause they get played, j.cole gets played much less so he not as popular, even tho he platinum and sold out msg last week. But future much more popular, even tho he can't even sniff platinum."

How does this make sense to you?

You nigga's are dodging the point. We are talking about radio and what dictates spins / mainstream exposure.

Future is hot in part because he was / is getting disproportionate radio play in which he didn't / doesn't deserve, as dictated by sales, for some odd reason. Same with Iggy.

And yes, hot in their eyes = sales as toted by every pandering radio personality, including Ebroni himself.

I live in Philly. Both Joey Bada$$ and Future can equally sell out a venue; we don't discriminate. That touring shit won't work here.

So hot to you niggas = single spins now? Ya'll willing to admit that these garbage niggas are sustaining themselves off of singles alone? Cuz clearly, noone is buying the album. Future gets more radio spins, will sell out venues equal sized, played in more clubs according you, and overall recieves more mainstream exposure....

... and he still sells 100k less than a Meek Mill.

Only a few rappers will be "sniffing" platinum....and with radio spins, its catered to women mostly. PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO HEAR CONSCIOUS RAP ON THE RADIO. And right now, Future is a more popular artist than J Cole. Better artist...no. Hotter...definitely. And nobody is checking for Joey out of the Tri-state area lol. And again, Migos are not hot right now. JCole actually get more spins down here than Migos. They play the hell out of his album. NY radio must be on Migos tip but not here.

On a side note, I wish J Cole put out more mixtapes and did more features. IMO, thats how an artist really get exposure...by featuring with people who are hot and solid mixtapes.

Because NY was the only place that bought Joey's music? If the dude can sell that much independently that shows you that he has a following and could be a potential star. Hip Hop music is more than just turning up and partying, give others a chance. And besides that not everybody wants to hear Future or Migos but they're force feeding it. So then why can't Joey get forced fed regardless of whether people want to hear him or not?

Cole sold 350k his first week with little to no leeway or promotion. 200k more than what Future just pushed. More than double. And he received damn near no radio spins. He is a hotter / better artist by all standards including numbers. Yet Future still gets bullshit ass radio spins.

Again, like I said I don't really follow radio or sales too much...but my general impression was that migos and future and rhq were selling tons of records.

But if they aren't, I think radio should stop playing them as much. Esp when you factor in that dudes like wale, lupe, badass, etc outsell them by a lot yet get little to no radio play...

Yeah im pretty sure badass is mostly popular in nyc, but even nyc radio dont play him, as ebro said. I think that's fucked up personally, but whatever... I still like and play what I like, so it's all good to me...

I just wish radio was more reflective of what ppl actually listen to and purchase

Joey is "minor league" according to Ebro.

Meek is a bigger artist as well...NY radio should conduct an experiment...limit the exposure of Southern artists on one of two of yall big hip hop stations out there. And see if viewership is impacted at the radio station that's being used as the experiment and for the control (the other station) and by what percentage. I'm predicting that people will tune into the "control" station.

You are making it seem like there's a conspiracy going on to limit East coast artists or something lol. Some southern agenda or something? lol

Also with album sales, the numbers are so skewed that its almost not a good indicator of radio play. They play the hell out of Bobby Schmurda and Troy Ave but they didn't sell good. Also with so many people not paying for music, who knows anymore.

That's how it was before the telecommunications act of 1996. Hot97 primarily played east coast artists with some west coast/south/Midwest sprinkled in every once in a while. And the station did very well. Then a system was put in place where playlists were premade and most stations around the country had to play the same shit. So whether you're in Houston, Oakland or NY. The same 4 or 5 songs are in constant rotation. So if they did start to play nothing but NY artists again with little to no music from other regions, the fans will be programmed to only like NY rappers over time. But either way, no one is saying to not play Future or Migos, we just want some balance.

I can respect that...I'm from Texas but I visit NYC quite a bit. I can't complain about the radio lol...but I do agree...less Migos would be good. Leave them to only play at the club where where we can really appreciate it. (I.E. women twerking lol)

And blame yall hot artists (French, A$AP Mob, and some others for not making sure some of the lesser artists get airplay like they do in the South)

Radio spins are controlled by companies who pay for time to get their artists songs ingrained on those dumb music fans who wanna hear 6 songs a day.

lol at the bolded J cole has been selling out coast to coast an large scale ampitheaters and arenas like the staples center. Last night at the show i went to 30,000 people were there.

Future could not sell out a 10,000 seat venue consistently outside of atlanta if he tried. And Cole shows got everyong white folk black folk i saw nerd ass niggas even some chick who looked like she was on some punk rock typa hair cut .

It's funny you wish cole did more featues. The show i went to was not sold out right away it actually sold the final 5 to 10 thousand seats in the last month. During that time fans had the chance to see cole is doing the entire album without features during the show. Knowing that he actually sold more tickets after people on the fence made purchases to see him.

Future and J. Cole is probably on the same field as popularity.

There is no way in hell Future could sell out an arena tour as the headline artist let alone a 30,000 seat venue outside atlanta. You look at sales and Coles latest album damn near sold more than all of futures albums combined. If Future can get numbers (to a paid show) on coles level and he can't sell as many records as cole then how is he more popular?

let me guess the excuses people will make

"But future gets more play on the radio" the radio spins are based off dj connections and or labels pushing a singles

"Future fans don't really buy his album legally" neither do most cole fans hence why the fact more cole fans will pay to see him live over future coast to coast is why cole is more popular

"Future makes music for the clubs that's why he doesn't sell like cole" ok but that does not make him more popular that makes his music limited to one niche whereas cole is more versatile

"Shut up monizzle you stupid ass hockey player" again dissing my corny hockey playing ass doesn't take away the fact you are making a statement about cole that is not true.

Cole is indeed a more established artist. More of a traditional rapper and as far as lyrics, miles ahead of Future. But as far as popularity/buzz as of August 9th, 2015, Future is the hotter rapper.

Quit trying to redirect the convo to who has the capacity to sell out venues. Of course, J Cole will win that battle every time. Future is learning to be more of a national artist outside of ATL. Future got a bigger buzz TODAY. Every (most) rappers go through some type of "troughs and crests" and he got the juice right now. Its honorable to sell as much as he did the first week in this day in age...a rap album being #1 on the billboard chart is big.

Might as well add you in here as well @"5th_Letter"
