Because a best friend is someone you relate to and talk to about anything, someone who enjoys the same activitys as you
Like ex. Women wanna talk about hair periods and niggas
Men wanna talk about basketball bitches and manly shit
I would never ever relate 100% to the opposite sex unless they on sone suspect gay shit

Back in the high school I didn't know the game.. I was "best friends" with this one chick.. talked on the phone all the time, hung out all the time... and I knew, I KNEW, that no matter how much she would say "ewwwww no I wouldn't with him, we jus tight" that I would eventually win... Jus had to get the game right (I eventually stopped simpin on her).. climbed up outta the friend zone.. from there it was history

You talk to your best friend about your period and your hair not just because they are your best friend, but also because they understand that shit. Go through the same shit. When I had a female best friend, she didn't want to talk to me about that shit because guess what? I'll never fully understand that shit. Because I'm not a female. Does that make a friendship any less meaningful? Not in my opinion. I could talk to her about relationship shit, sports, regular real life shit, etc. She had my back in any situation that came up, etc. The sex of a person don't really matter unless you let it matter.

So I take it that if your man had a female best friend when you met him, you'd have told him he gotta stop being friends with her?

i agree a best friend is just that a friend you can come to for anything, if your "so called best friend" cant talk to you about her period then you guys arent really that close... i know mine does she'll be like yo *terbear* i got mad cramps, ill be like oh shit that sucks want me to pick you up something from the store.

basically when u have a friend thats a chick u can do more wit her than u can do wit males...such as hittin up a romantic flick, gettin dressed together, hell even shower together sometimes. and it also allows you to evaluate that female that could potentially be your future wifey. gotta be friends before anything further. and thats the best way to do it. ya girlfriend or wifey should be your best friend because if you hook up wit sum random person then youre stuck wit sum one u have nothing to relate to.
