could of swore Kendrick Lamar worked with MC Eiht and Ron Isley. Not to mention affliated with Dr. Dre. J Cole just did a song with Janet Jackson and his boss worked with Michael Jackson. I dont blame niggas for not wanting to reach out to him. He is contrary. He never has anything positive to say about hip hop. He barely can say anything positive about his own peers in the 70s without a backhanded shit talk. Every time he opens his mouth he disses entire generation of hip hop artists. I find it ironic he mentions moe dee and Kane because Melle Mel was talking shit about their era. I clearly remember him talking shit about NWA, EPMD, LL Cool J. He still hasnt recovered or took the next step in his career since Run DMC came in game 83-84 and made costume wearing, bob to bob to bang to bang diggy diggy disco rappers like him obsolete and a joke overnight.

I guess Melle Mel is feeling himself because Maclemore used him as a fuckin prop at the vma last month..........

Instead of crying bcuz you are not in the spotlight anymore, why not pick up the mic and create your own spotlight? How is any big named rapper of today gonna change the fact that you are a washed up rapper by putting you in a video or song? We live in an age of information. If people wanted to know about the pioneers of the game they could easily research it. Melle Mell has a history of being bitter. One day he will say the new school rappers are wack and the next day he wanna ride their jock to success. KRS said it best when he said-

You know what you need to learn?

Old School artists don't always burn.

You're just another rapper who's had his turn.

Lmao rebuttal please

Niggas be soundin like hoes. Nobody asked you about these men so why you speakin on em? Nigga you still breathin, you still got a voice, you got more experience in hip hop than anybody you mentioned, hell, you got more experience in hip hop than kendrick and cole have on earth, get it poppin for yourself. Hoe ass niggas cryin bout the next man givin em a look cause they well run dry. Soon as one of them youngins fall off you wouldn't even speak to em on the street. I bet if an up and comer was to ask the same thing you woudn't be so courteous, but you speakin on "real cats" I hate niggas sometimes I swear.

What's his definition of "connection"? Sounds like throwing them some money.

Nigga need to get the fuck outta here with that entitlement shit. Would Melly Melle still want a shout out if none of those guys were rich and famous. Would he want it if it was someone like Murs, Lil Brother?

this is ether but i just read it again and realized bolded and bust out laughin

Kool Moe Dee is a artist that went on to find success after the treacherous three and the first generation rap, with the next generation of rappers that came out with Run DMC. He was just that talented.

Hell, he almost made it to the mid 90's before he went on to do other things. He wrote a successful book, wrote for a few magazines, and I believe he still rocks a dope internet radio show

Not every artist survives in the game and that goes for every genre of music, entertainment business as a whole.

Melle Mel was part of a crew that made some classic songs. He, however did not do well as a solo artist and I think it's strictly out of respect for his "one of the pioneers" status that more people don't come out and tell of how difficult it is to work with him.

Grand master Flash had a talent to fall back on as a dj. His skills and massive record collection has him still getting work today. Mel could have been the first celebrity dj and tossed out a few raps during his sets. Dude thought he was a brand before it became a thing but unfortunately never had the right team or connections to make it happen

I don't think anything wrong with what he said. He basically saying the white boy getting some hate for trying to "use the legends." He just saying maklemore showed love when other more down artists wouldn't.

If that's how he feel that's how he feel. As a elder he should be able to at least speak his mind.

Maklemore is not getting hate for using legends, he's getting hate for using them as props.

People are rightfully still upset with him winning multiple hip hop awards over more deserving rappers. He's aware of that, so he decided that using Melle Mel as a prop would keep the black folk quiet. He was wrong.
