Mongols were always fairly tolerant of other religions, it's about the only thing they were progressive about, even Genghis was tolerant.

But they also looked at people who worked (farmed) the land as nothing less than cattle to be rounded up and slaughtered. None of the Khans were nice guys.

Y'all really need to listen to that podcast.
 
Being tolerant of all religions was not to be kind to the people, but to maintain their power with ease. The US understood this same concept from jump. Religion is the number one reason for uprisings, even above abject poverty and oppression. Faith gives hope and once hope is gone people have nothing to live for. Once they have nothing to live for, they're not afraid to die. An enemy without fear of death is your greatest enemy.
