Lorde Calls Out Drake & Nicki Minaj, Calls Their Music Irrelevant

I made the same points when I found out Justin Bieber was sampling Today Was A Good Day artists who are pop oriented don't know or care about hip hop record companies twenty or thirty years ago considered it a fad that didn't have the staying power of rock or pop. Ironically they'll collaborate with rappers to increase and broaden their crossover appeal but don't know the difference between rap/hip hop or the five elements of the culture. And label executives dictate but they don't know or care about the cultural elements or preservation of the culture. I was laughed at and nosigned but rappers and Brown Sugar predicted this years ago.

Why would she personally relate to them though?

They're from whole different countries and cultures

Nikki's music is for all the hood fly bitches, like Kim and Foxy and every regular hood chick who's rapped since Kim,except the Lauryn Hill genre

Then Nikki switched it up to be pop and started making Rihanna/katy perry songs to relate to the pop world

Drake kind of took on American urban culture and is for the middle class/urban market and mainstream market

Drake is for the high schoolers and college kids specifically

Then their both talking about what we know to be hollywwod/hood rich/ bling bling/ rap

Hip hop/rap exists in it's own universe with already set rules and genres and expectations like sitcoms

We expect the artists w/ that image to portray a rockstar life

In short, whether you like Drake or Nikki, fuck with this chick is talking about

Lorde: I Didn’t Mean Drake and Nicki Minaj Were Irrelevant To Everyone

Lorde: I Didn’t Mean Drake and Nicki Minaj Were Irrelevant To Everyone

(AllHipHop News) Oh, Lorde, Lorde, Lorde. Last week (November 24th), 16 year old pop singer Lorde called Nicki Minaj and Drake’s music “irrelevant” and then backtracked on her comments.

Taking to her personal Twitter, the singer blames Complex for misconstruing her word. She specified that although she said “How are we listening to this,” her comments were about her own experience:

nice try @ComplexMag, but i have nothing but love and admiration for both nicki and drake (have said this x1000)

— Lorde (@lordemusic) November 27, 2013

just because their songs aren’t my reality (being 17 and from auckland) doesn’t mean i don’t admire their musicianship and careers!

— Lorde (@lordemusic) November 27, 2013

Ironically, in October, Lorde talked to MTV about the scrutiny people face over their opinions about celebrities:

I think there’s a funny culture in music that’s only happened over the last 15 years, that if you have an opinion about something in music that isn’t 100-percent good, you’re a ‘hater,’ even if you have perfectly reasonable grounds for that critique. People will say exactly what they think about a movie or a TV show, and that’s fine, but as soon as you say it about a record, you’re like some little zombie in a funny dungeon.

You guys know that macklemore put his album it on an independent label, right? There was no machine trying to destroy black culture pushing it.

But he still has a distribution deal with Warner(a major) which is why he is selling so much. Have u ever seen an independent black artist successfully do that without having to sign to a label first? I haven't. And I know that many have tried

this is hating at its finest.

cuz a black person aint sold like than indie with distribution its because of the major?

maybe they built a solid fan base and made the right hit singles and album
