This was another battle of opinion vs facts. It's cool to have an opinion on an issue, but at some point you're going to have to support it with facts and not only did Sion do that to support his stance but also to dismantle Allergen's.

Allergens made a few good points, but then he fucked it up with alot of dumb shit, ie comparing this topic to murder "I guess we should let all the killers out of jail, cuz life is hard" to not even being able to get the names in his arugment right.

This is why it's good to have judges with different points of view. We had the same winner but @_Goldie_ wasn't a fan of Solemns opinions while I was. Likewise, he was a big fan of Sions facts but I would have preferred some more of Sions opinion on the matter.

It's too easy to sit and say "well you shouldn't have laid with her/him !" in that case you shouldn't live in the hood if you don't want to be poor - STOP there's too many socioeconomic reasons for why these things occur and human nature is impossible to predict. That's why we go to court, to deal with the consequences.

If a person is sent to jail the child support doesn't stop, it arrears and becomes even more expensive to deal with. It's impossible to work from a jail and write checks. Not to mention you still have to rehabilitate people to get them back into society and working. As the NY Times article showed, plenty of young people get caught up and as a result lose decent jobs going to jail and then have to work even harder to find a new one that's even able to take care of the debt owed. The economic damage ? Approximately $35 billion nationwide. The cycle continues. There is a difference between the UNWILLING and the UNABLE.

Not only did he provide info on how flawed the system is, he presented a great solution to the issue.

There are other means that can be used to extract child support payments that can't be paid back. Child support payments could be decided by actual income made not pre-tax or imputed income. By jailing people for child support you create a vicious cycle which affects not only the individual but the entire family structure destroying it. You can penalise people for missing payments but jail time is absolutely unnecessary. It's not about having no consequences it's about creating a system that is fair and actually works. If someone owed me money the last thing I'd want to hear is that they're sitting in a 6 by 4 because I know they can't work from one to pay me what is owed. I'd prefer to instead impose child support come from their actual income made and deposited to me as opposed to pretax, I'd do everything in my power to make sure they have the means to be able to work to pay me every dime owed. Having a child support judgement against one's name makes it harder to apply for credit and get loans which is good enough punishment but to throw them in jail and fuck up their ability to make money ? Doesn't make sense and doesn't work.

To stay out of jail, go to the contempt of court hearing prepared to show that you have not deliberately disobeyed the court’s order to pay child support. You may have to convince the judge that you’re not as irresponsible as it appears. Preparing evidence is a must.

Your first step is to show why you didn’t pay. If you’ve been out of work, get a sworn statement from your most recent employer stating why you were let go. If you went job searching but had no luck, provide records of when you interviewed or filled out an application and with whom you spoke.

Next, you must explain why you didn’t request a modification hearing when it became evident that you couldn’t meet your support obligation.

Judges rarely put a parent in jail for contempt of court. Usually, it happens only if an income-withholding order and a wage garnishment won’t work. Courts recognize that a jailed parent cannot earn money to make child support payments.

Now that all of that is framed for the responsible parent, you should have focused on the deadbeats who skirt the system in an effort NOT to pay child support. Men who won't work on purpose because they don't want to pay. Men who strictly work under the table, etc. There is a few ways you could have taken this.
