Lil Yachty Can't Name 5 Songs By Biggie Or Tupac

Here is the difference between rap and other genres. Rappers from the 80's and even some from the 90's don't tour like that anymore in big venues. All the 80s niggas maybe come together and do an all star tour where they each do literally 5 songs. When did big daddy kane last do a coast to coast tour? What about slick rick? No them niggas may be performing 3 hits at a nba halftime show but that's it. Maybe a small theater tour but that's it.

But shit if i want to see AC/DC them niggas got a tour going on right now. I fucking saw stevie wonder still playing dope as fuck last october and hes from the 60's. You can catch old ass country singers still touring old as fuck. Parents can't take their kid to an 80s rappers headlining tour like other genres.

You know why all these young rock musicians know the grateful dead and dylan and zeppelin? Because 30 plus years after they first came out some young rock artists father took them to see that act in a big arena and that's how they learned to respeskt the rock legends. You can't take your son to an LL cool J show at Madison Square Garden. So how can a yougn' like lil yacty understand how big LL was in the 80s and 90's?

There's a lil more to it than that.

Back in the 80s the rap industry was just being formed so a lot of the old school rappers got ripped off because there were no rules. They signed over their publishing rights and mechanical royalties, as a result they don't make any money from their "hits".

By the time the 90s rolled around rappers were a lil more savvy. Rappers from the 90s managed to hold on to their publishing and mechanical royalties so they make money when they tour ala Duck Down.

Rap music is the only genre where elders are expected to be disregarded and disrespected at some point. You damn sure won't hear a young guitarist talking about how Slash from Guns and Roses ain't shit or they don't know how he plays.

i have a theory on this..

disregard ur elders..

the competitive nature..

violent.. materialistic.. misogynistic content..

no wonder black folks move forward..

our culture is fuckin backwards and its spearheaded by our music..

I said it in my interview, bruh: Rap is not the cause of the issues that plague the black community, but it does exacerbate those issues.

Its like these new niggas take pride in this shit. They try they hardest to be removed from rap and hip hop as much as possible.

You would never hear a guy like Michael B Jordan say "fuck Sidney Portier and Harry Belafonte". They don't have respect for anybody that came before them. You wouldn't ever hear a mfer disrespect the Beatles or Jimi Hendrix, ever. If they did they'd be black balled but in "rap" it's cool.

Then on top of that they acting like they shit is better. I was listening to Big earlier today he was straight spittin on them r&b tracks. Even so much so theyl singers became the feature.

It was really Notorious BIG ft Total forreal.

I legit can't name 5 KRS joints but that don't mean I don't respect him and other's like him.

shit i will be truthful on some days i couldnt either but other times i could name 10-15 songs, so i dont know what to say. But this lil nigga sounds like he have no love for rap/hiphop at all

Thats understandable but still do you homework. Im 90s baby but i know all the old cats that came before . Show some respect .

@Stew he's back

:joy: look at all the alias's.

I think there is no issue with him not knowing Pac or Big songs. I think the real issue is making note of that to others. That's the disrespect in that, like you don't have to know their music. But you have to know the impact they had and not go on record disrespecting that impact by playing them to the side like they ain't nothing to know.

That's like a new hotep nigga saying he rock wit Umar. But he couldn't quote a MLK or X gem if you asked him. You can't be in it and not know the history of it a least. Specially if you're trying to eat offa it. He is basically in the class of a Miley Cyrus, dude is a literal culture vultures. Straight up and down.

Goes to show you he doesn't have any real grown folks around him. He won't be around for long.

On the other hand, rap does that, I wasn't born in the 60's but I can give you ten songs by James Brown Motown artists, Stax, Malaco and a gang of groups, but these new cats, I don't know about them

@kinghassan Gotta agree....I can say having older brothers and uncles etc I heard a lot of stuff that was popping years before I was born...My grandmother would play the keyboard and sing Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come....But everybody's not a student of the game, and I think this kid might be coming off as rebellious because of the criticism that he receives...If dude was born in 98 are we really expecting him to know 5 songs from Big and Pac? Unless his parents listened to those two a lot, I wouldn't expect him to know.....

when lupe didn't know shit about ATCQ even though he was performing a verse of theirs on hip hop honors, did y'all go as hard on him as you did on RHQ and now lil yachty?

im not caping, just asking an honest question...

i really don't care what a 17 year old thinks about music 20 years ago

i know when dre made the chronic and snoop's first album, all the old heads were telling me that was nothing but "talking over parliament funkadelic beats" and they'd go on and on about p-funk and all that and in my head all i heard was "blah blah blah"

i imagine this is the same thing

tupac and biggie was OUR generation, these kids have their own generation, let them rock

Well it is what it is... This brings up a point that I've been wanting to talk about. We always talk about Rakim,Kane, and others from the 80's... Jay, NAS, and others from the 90's.. But we don't really know who the greats are from 1998(the year Yachty was born) til like now. People say Eminem is one of the greats but the other slots seem to be always open. People laugh when you say Wayne's a legend, you say Jeezy and you might get the side eye. I know Yachty probably grew up on Soulja Boy or some shit, but we got to know who the greats are from that time period. I mean niggas are saying Drake and Kendrick and shit but it feels like we skipped over quite a few rappers.

Lupe is talented

Him and all the "rappers" like him don't have to be disrespectful about their disinterest in these great artists. Even if I didn't listen to them, I wouldn't go out of my way to shit on anyone.. all that extra shit like " I don't listen to any of that" or "I don't know none of their music" could be kept to yourself. Classless bitches.
