So which artist are college students responsible for??

None really, except Kanye, Drake, Cudi, J. Cole, Big Sean, and Dom Kennedy I think. Other independent cats were already builiding their buzz up and gettin respect, but college/suburban kids hopped on a bandwagon and took them to the next level. But they weren't "responsible" for the success. That's like me gettin with a chick who got a 15 year old son who's bomb at basketball. I might show up to some games, and buy him some better shoes, but if that nigga make it to the NBA, it wasn't all on me. Lol.

Mad niggas are on twitter... Im not saying its hood or anything, but niggas are fuckin with that shit

I just know in my experience....when I go back to Delaware & Philly & I ask niggas about new artists...they dont know who I'm talkin about.

They'll speak on artists from the city doing the youtube thing (Meek Mills, Reed Dollas, Joey Jihad, NH, Quilly Mills, etc)

But if I asked them 2 years ago....who J. Cole was? who Nipsey Hussle was? who Wiz Khalifa was?

They wouldn't know

But if I asked a college student....a few of them would know. We have our ear to new shit faster, to artists from different areas, not just cats bubblin in the underground of our city.

Can't co-sign that at all Gucci Mane, Waka, and even Yo Gotti make more money touring than Lupe or Cudi and that's been for the last five years.

Gucci and Waka been touring all up north, I wish Lupe would be touring down south like that LOL

That nigga Gotti come here 2-3x's a year and still sell out everytime Lupe n them type rappers usually play at Sonar and the shows be packed but its also half the size of the clubs Gotti play.

Is it possible that some "street niggas" can/or are in college? You ever thought of that?

Naw, there are no street niggas in college, just posers. Trust me if you are in college, you want something better for your life, THERE ARE NO THUGS IN COLLEGE.

That shit sounds exactly right. Niggas in the hood don't be on twitter or up on new artists like that til like you say they drop a hit like Black and Yellow. Niggas in the hood be inside there own cities bubbles.

So college students put gucci mane and wacka flocka on top?

Gucci Mane and Wacka are singles artist, neither of them haven't even sold a gold album or really had a movement that captured mainstream America. Those niggas are basically club rappers!

I think Posters dont realize that theirs a diffrence from being a Thug and being a Street Dude. Everyone wants a better life for theirselves some ppl just go about it n a different way. A Thug is just a simple nigga that wanna 'thug' all day n not thinkn about college or bettering theirself

I agree with this but again Gucci was big in the hood like 5 years ago then next thing you know all the "college kids" are bumping wasted like he just got on

It ain't about College Kids cause I could have sworn that Asher Roth was the product of College kids. Wiz was big in the hood way before he was big with College kids. The College kids are just a audience but it ain't that big of a deal. J Cole, Wiz, and Asher are big on college campuses but I bet they ain't bigger than Gucci or Waka on College or anywhere else for that matter. Bottom line so called street rapper have more success and sell more and sell out more shows than these "College Rappers"

One big question I have for the person who started this thread, aren't those college tours and all that stuff you are talking about usually free or almost free.

They were charging $100 dollars to get in to a Gucci concert at a whole in the wall the other week and he probably didn't even show or got there around 2 in the morn. I don't even want to guess what it was for VIP. J Cole, Cudi, and Lupe, and Asher wouldn't get that love if they were all on the same bill

You live in a bubble my friend, Gucci and Waka are bigger than anybody you are talking about from album sales to popularity to tours or anything for that matter. I love J Cole but his mixtape impact compared to Gucci and Waka is a joke. Hard in the paint and O let's do it were mixtape joints and the people blew them up. Waka was like Gucci body guard and dropped like one or two mixtapes and now he a house hold name. That is what the streets did, now what rapper has college students blown up like that ? Asher Roth Cole has dropped like three mixtapes and has not had a single yet. The biggest reason why Wiz blew up is because he has an image. J Cole has no image and therefore he has no single.

I can't agree. I personally know niggas who are paying for college off sellin' dope. Not saying its a good thing, but it most def is reality.

They are bigger in the clubs and on the radio right now and popularity doesn't mean shit dude, there are lots of indie artist who make more money touring doing festivals and 5000 plus seat arenas, don't get caught up in the image of being popular. What big name tours are Wacka and Gucci Mane on, these niggas are basically club touring niggas. Niggas like Asher and less popular rappers can do festivals like Coachella, Bonnaro, etc and make good money because they have that following, they ain't in no stuffy ass club in Atlanta performing for vip, bottles, and pocket change.

In all honesty in a lot of cases the "streets" are also apart of the college scene. Just about all colleges have what we call locals. Alotta ppl at these college parties(the ones off campus especially) are from the local hoods in the area. Even just walking around on campus you'll see alotta ppl who don't even go to the school hanging out or hunting for bitches. The soul of the streets is present in a lot universities and colleges......hell if you're a dope boy you'd be crazy not to have clientele there. Your average college student is supporting the weed man on the outskirts of campus. The streets don't have all the say but they damn sure have a strong influence

your avg college student is supporting the weed man on campus...truth be told alot of colleges yes do have influence from the surrounding areas but in a way they are also a big ass bubble at the same time...alot of schools don't go for letting the locals hang around on campus and come to campus events that aren't open to the general public...the school I graduated from used to be open about it but the locals started coming onto campus fucking shit up, starting all sorts of problems so they were literally banned from the campus

The College crowd whether its them buying or downloading shit or if it was college radio usually playing the underground shit and having MC's show up and spit for example the Stretch & Bobbito show in NYC always had a big influence on hip hop. Lets not mention the outta town kid from NY going to school some place down south and bringing New York Hiphop to his classmates and vice versa that same NY cat hearing some DJ Screw or southern shit and bringing it up north..

More and more people are going to college nowdays. Even many people in the hood are now going to college.

That whole "I stay on the block with my glock and two rocks in my sock" shit just dont apply to as many people anymore.

Now its more like "Fresh out of class with a book in my backpack, wheres the weed at?"

Maybe is should of said majority white universities, because i don't know wtf you niggas are talking about hood niggas hanging on campus. Where yall go to college FAMU, Praire View University? lol

Real talk, niggas stay making up shit. Real niggas are at college parties but they are not anywhere near buildings of higher learning. The d-boys in college are generally college students for the most part. There are a lot of former street dudes in college.

lol @ Econ being easy....not quite....econometrics can suck a dick btw

so basically, you want your major to be seen as "hard", but hate anything that requires more advanced thinking within the field. Got it.
