The verse was good/necessary but what I come to realize (fan of his music, btw) is all he has to do is rap 'aggressive' and ppl'll automatically say he killed it/overhype it. If I'm wrong, name 5 hot lines - without going back to listen, if possible. The funny part is ppl trynna make it a eastcoast-westcoast thing over one line (add to the fact it wasn't one eastcoast rapper on the song) when the focus should be on him saying he better than EVERY rapper and placing his name w/ the elites. The whole purpose was him crowning himself and drawing a line for competition, yet it's rappers from Cali celebrating & NY rappers congregating.
Also, Sean either re-laid his verse w/ subliminals toward the mid way point or Kendrick's was directly inspired by that. I'll go with the former, the 'you write ya name w/ a sharpie' line was kind of slick as well as the 'name drop' & 'O.G.' lines.

And no diss but let's be real Jay-Z is NOT gonna stand up for NY to go at Kendrick.
Nah ... he definitely wouldn't.
He's been lyrically beaten on wax years back.
Lyrically, none of these new niggas is fucking with the jiggas, nas Lupe's of the rap game.. None of them except jay e.. That's not even a diss to them becuz they good n their own right but a lot of niggas come aggressive on a track and niggas hyping them up to be the next goat.. I hear Kendrick flow fast and that's cool and all but never anything that make me stop the track over and over again becuz I'm just shocked about what I heard.. I did replay it to make sure I heard everything tho
c/s......I think Kendrick is dope. I think GKMC is a soon to be classic. I think his mixtapes are dope as well. However, it initially took me a while to get into his music. Nigguhs kept saying he was so dope, but I just didn't see it. I grew up in the era of true rap legends......nigguhs who when you heard them spit some shit you had to rewind to check wtf he just said cause it was so crazy. Kendrick makes good songs, but I can't think of one bar he has ever spit that had me like....
That is the honest to god, unbiased truth. I think the game is so absolutely trash and fans are so eager to have that next "Jordan of rap" that people are elevating certain rappers to a "lyrical" level they really aren't on in comparison to the greats of the past and present. Again, I think K-Dot is dope and he makes some great music, but "lyrically"....and I'm talking about dope, gotta ass, rewind that bars....he's cool. He's got a dope delivery. He's a dope freestyler.....but he's never spit a verse that I had on repeat 10+ times in a row. He is definitely one of the best of this generation, but he still has some growing to do imo.
