Keywords
From what I've observed, around about 2007 you had more rappers making it a point to add the popular keywords to their song, almost akin to a subliminal marketing technique. There was a period when every song, EVERY SONG, mentioned swag/schwag. Almost every "single" that dropped was swag this swag that. It's like that was the word the sheep wanted to hear at the time and the microwave rappers ran it into the ground. Now, as the Hot97 crew pointed out (i didn't watch the vid so I don't know the full extent of their parody), "ratchet, turnup, and molly" are those keywords.
Many of these rappers are not rapping to express themselves, they're trying to cash in by riding waves. The "wave" is so basic and idiotic (throw in the keywords, use the go-to flow of the moment ie Meek Mill Flow) b/c of fans who accept cookie cutter bullshit.
