Kendrick Lamar: "MOLLY RAP is watering down Hip Hop.."

I don't think he's speaking against the use of molly/MDMA, even though it has long term side effects people will see a lot of in the near future. But often times when molly is rapped about, it's never based on a solid thought process. I highly doubt someone whose most quotable line is "popped a molly, I'm sweatin" would have anything intelligent to say in that particular mindstate. It waters down party songs, and hip hop in general. And anyone who disagrees is delusional.

understood, but molly references only been getting dropped since like last year it aint been going on that long. aint like the auto tune age. that crap was goin on for like 3 years straight. even after Jigga killed it it took another year to go away. heck, this kid Future even brought it back to life.

It's best to kill the problem early before it becomes an epidemic.

The thing about Jay and the "D.O.A" joint is that he waited a little too late to say something about it..and he's also guilty of it considering he had traces of it on The Blueprint 3 album, the fact remains that he's a premier voice in this game and let it be known..but by the time he did, autotune was full blown all over by the likes of T-Pain, Lil Wayne and his little brother Kanye.

yea, my thing is would it rly have gotten that far if Kendrick wouldn't have said anything, or would it have most likely died out on its on a maybe a few more months

I think the point some of yall missing is that most of these so called rappers that reference molly in they raps, don't really partake in the drug. Only using it as a key phrase to sound relevant. That is pretty lame.

It's not gonna stop just cause of that though...Kendrick don't have that much power, lol...The statement just has truth to it...

Word, that's the biggest problem. And MDMA is nothing to take lightly. Most of these rappers probably have idea no side effects or anything

He's talking about the trend of rappers talking about popping mollys in all their songs. Lil Wayne has a molly reference in all of his raps now for instance

I know what he's talking about. Its dumb imo. He's acting all of those artist are making a whole song about Molly when really ita only 2 or 3 rappers are doing that. They say one line about Molly and its Molly Rap now?

Once again, we're talking about one line out of 48 bars and chorus of a song.

The threadstarter paraphrased him by calling it "Molly Rap" but he's just saying how when people mention it its corny and played out. He's not calling it "molly rap" necessarily.

And "Ratchett drums", alotta these little internet names been poppin up lately, I gotta feelin hip hop really is on the way out, whats next

And niggas is actually referrin to that techno shit simply as trap now as if thats what came first

tupac rapped about smokin sherm and doin x

pimp c, shyne, and 3 6 mafia rapped alot bout snortin coke

lil boosie rapps about smokin dust, gucci mane raps about gettin high off animal tranquilizer

wayne raps about gettin wet, snortin blow, and lacin his blunts

wutang laced their blunts with crack and rapped alot about pcp

Consumers are to blame, for supporting it, not the music or artist, remember Kreyshawn? She is an example of our power. She was everywhere before her album flopped, now she aint nowhere.

As consumers continue to make a stand @ the cash register, Hip Hop will follow Darwin's Theory Of Evolution, only the fittest will survive and the unfit will do #kreyshawnnumbas and die off.

Don't knock it til you try it...It's not dangerous...In responsible doses...

Rappers aint never "did" everything in their rap songs. Of course. Its entertainment. I cant fault him for criticizin it tho. Im grown but there been a lot of things in rap that may not be the best for kids to hear. It was syrup not too long ago. When i was younger it was all green and alcohol in the music.

Niggas follow jay-z orders like he is their parent lol

While there is much truth in what he said, the real issue is not its effect on hip hop. These trends are a reflection of the youth - the popularity of MDMA with young people is the real issue that needs addressing.
