Charlamagne is fucking stupid. I understood everything Kanye is saying, financial empowerment is everything. Charlamagne is the type of nigga who is happy with bread crumbs, Kanye is saying why can't we own the bakery as black people. That's black peoples problem as a whole in this country, we're consumers and not owners. We make up 10% of America and are the biggest consumers. smh

Word. I thought more people would come into this thread with an understanding. For the record, IDK if every question Charlemagne threw out there was b/c of his own confusion/lack of understanding, because he seemed stupid @ times, or if he has the senses to know that these are the questions that common listeners may have.

meanwhile he begging Nike and Euro trash for cosigns.

From what I gathered, Kanye wants a certain level of respect from them (as industry leaders/powerhouses) that they have yet to give blacks. He talked about their willingness to give crumbs (ie use famous black ppl for Communications/Marketing), but their reluctance to let them sit at the table where the most impactful decisions are made and have all their ideas heard...even when the person has the credentials and Passion of Kanye.

Kanye was on fire in this interview.

With the understanding that this Dude's only focus is Money?

That he compares himself to Ralph Lauren and D'Vinci and we are supposed to be impressed?

That he chose to be in an interracial relationship and we are supposed to feel sorry for him?

That in order for Kanye to feel as if a person opinion matters their bank account has to be bigger then his or cut him a check?

What's being missed here?

Like Charlamagne pointed out. The real revolutionaries moved people and changed the country without the backing of big corps and tons of money. WHY? because, their focus was the people. Not sitting at a table with Nike, Prada, Polo etc etc. begging for money.

LOL you clearly know nothing about ''infrastructure" and that's what Kanye is getting at. You need those textile, distribution, factories, etc that Nike and clothing industry have to become a billionaire.

Let me break it down for ya'll, people like Kanye, Jay, Puff, etc are basically like sub labels (Rocafella, Good Music, etc). Ya'll don't see what only 3 or 4 majors (Universal, Atlantic,Warner, etc) control the business. It's all a infrastructure issue, there are gate keepers who only let certain people in.

Man I dont know what some of y'all was listening to. Dude said he wants to set up his family/bloodline for generations to come, how do you do that? You create something for them to profit from for years to come, whats wrong with that?

Just like he said the daughter of the man that owns that radio station don't have to ask for a job at the station, she'll get whatever position she wants but Envy would have to ask for a hand in getting one of his kids a job there.

Financial empowerment isn't everything. It's, merely a small portion of it. Furthermore, financial empowerment means nothing if all you are doing is spending on bullshit. So, Kanye is crying to NIKE so, he can take of his CHILD by charging OUR children $100's of dollars for a fucking shoe. Grow up, you sloppy niggas.

Charlamagne checked him on the right things. How are you screaming on the corps then acting like a bitch cause they wont give you what you want. Empowerment is doing things independently. Not talking about you are independent then running to your parents for help then holding your breath when they say no or put stipulations on their involvement.

LOL at our children, stop blaming corporations because you have no fucking discipline to control your children and household. Plus money is all relative, what may be expensive to you may not be expensive to the next man if you is financially empowered. If you're struggling to pay for some sneakers, it's probably from poor decisions you've made in your life to not being able to afford them.

Ya'll independent argument is just like the record label independent fucking nonsense. You can only get so far being independent. That's the fucking point Kanye is trying to make, it's about ownership and getting that infrastructure.

No one here is speaking above anyone's head. This isn't rocket science. The difference it seems to me is Puffy and Jayz are totally ok with being sub labels. Kanye is bitching and moaning about nothing. He sees himself as more then he actually is then, is running a BS campaign about us being slaves to labels but then is trying to sell us the same labels just with his own ideas and spin on the label? That's some devil two timing shit right there. You are slave if, you find value in sitting at the table with the very people that have their foot on your neck. The Textile, manufacturing and production isn't being done in America. The chinese totally have the industry on lock. So, if, Kanye really wants to get his shit rocking then he would go straight to the source. The chinese. Not sit on a radio show bitching about Nike, and Polo.

Alot of folks are behind the 8ball and don't really understand how things work in this world..dude was saying pretty much what 2pac has been hinting around with the whole 'branding and owning' your own, Dude was on point and I got every word dude stated. This is bigger than rap and they seem to not understand that and kept sitting on him speaking on fashion, dude was just using that as his platform to speak on what he's going through and what every other person (black) with money in other areas are experiencing too, and they may not know...I wanted him to go in on that NBA, he touched and said something about David Stern, but he went into another direction got off track, but dude knows this game behind the game...and that's what folks most Americans are failing to understand

It's more about CONTROL than money. I get the sense that you're focusing on the wrong aspects of what Kanye is saying/doing and not seeing the overall point he's making. I felt like he answered this in the interview. When I watch it again I may try to simplify what he was saying for those w/ your P.O.V. to consider for understanding. I thought it was pretty straightforward though.

LMFAO.

I'm on your side of the argument but that Republican slip could have been left out.

False, Puff and Jay knows how to work better in the corporate world and navigating it. They know networking better, i don't think it's a matter of being sub labels because last time i check both those dudes had ownership in a piece of their products. The music and fashion business is no different than regular everyday life, you have to work with people you can't stand. You have to do that when you have goals in sight, you've got to have foresight and some discipline.

LOL at the Chinese have the industry on lock. So you think Kanye can just go over to China like that or the Chinese are going to fuck up their connections with these major fashion warehouses.

I think you're over simplifying this shit way too much, speaking as a novice who has no insignt to the industry. There is a reason why there isn't many of us in these industries. I've heard people like Karl Kani speak about the same issues Kanye has, i'll take their word for it over you.

I think dude has done his homework, This is the same shit 2pac was spitting when he was on his black panther tip...before the rape conviction...Dude was more intense with his movement and direct about it to these white folks, (this is what and why pac stayed in the news) but Kanye is doing it on a more business-type level per say than what 2pac was speaking on...he has money and still can't get doors open, 2pac was speaking on the ppl that didn't have money and couldn't kick down the doors, (and this is what Chamlamane was saying about not needing money and he liking his revolutionist being broke and for the ppl (2pac)) two different views/platforms from 2pac and Kanye West, but both men are speaking on the same thing...

You are quite the character and if I were a betting man, I would bet you are the most financially challenged nigga that posts on this site. I am a very fortunate person but I am the exception not the rule. And in my circle of Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers and University Professors. Yes we all find $200+ sneakers expensive. Whether we can afford it or not is not the issue. The price tag is high. Your nonchalant attitude tells me you can't afford it and are here fronting.

I am not blaming corporations and it's very apparent I am not. I am blaming lame brains like you and others defending this type of thinking like this is what life is supposed to be like. Admire arrogance, admire what the public says is hot or the in thing. I challenge these things daily while striving for excellence without begging or having to say look at me, look at what I got. I would urge you do the same.

Seems like Charlamagne was stuck on that make another College Dropout rhetoric. He sounded like a rap nerd, dude should know about evolution. Kanye is far removed from that dude who couldn't get a deal.

That dude said, This is the Hunger Games, that cut was deep, I myself been said this shit...if folks who saw the 1st movie, just peep how the whole layout of that city (districts) are, who runs who and what, how folks are, that was a deep cut when he said that, I said the same shit, when I 1st read that book...just keep living, it'll become clearer to folks

What it seems like you don't understand and what charlamagne and sway posed to Kanye was to remove them and do it yourself. It seems to me he could do it that way but he knows his paycheck will be smaller and that doesn't sit well with him. So, in the end it isn't about owning his own more so then it is him owning his own and saying he is on the same level with the large corp because, of the money generated.

For what Kanye has to say to mean anything it has to encompass more then just his bottom line. It has to speak to how this actually helps all.
