I agree with him no body just blows up over night every major artist has had some sort of a struggle. The way music is right know you mite not get a second chance.

Yep, if a album drops and doesn't perform you get dropped. A artist use to be able to drop a album, if it didn't perform sales wise they could still tour and come back with a second album making the right adjustments. It's one and done now, niggas like The Roots, Common, AZ,etc consistently put out music in the 90s (never sold gold) but could always get a major deal and still eat and do decent numbers.

It happens sometimes, but he has a good point at the same time, I mean you can't run a label by letting everyone release everything right away on their own schedule, development is half of what labels do.

False

Blu, Fashawn, Kendrick Lamar are artists recently who all dropped high quality albums on their first try,and by high quality i mean near flawless.

What is this "near flawless" Kendrick Lamar album you speak of? That nigga been around since like '07, and he used to go by a different name. Matter fact, all them niggas been around before they dropped anything that got a lot of attention...

I agree wit Jay-Z here though...At first I was gon be like "Well, ain't he drop Reasonable Doubt fresh off the street?"...But no, he had already been in a group, toured with Big Daddy Kane, rapped with Biggie, started his own label, etc...Niggas need time to actually get acclimated to the industry and develop a sound.

ofcourse u cant just come off the street and make a classic

every rapper goes through some form of artist development

pac and treach were carrying bags and being roadies before they got a chance to get on a song...that was artist development back in the day, lol

j cole has already gone through artist development, theyve taken him as far as he can go, he's put out mixtapes, done interviews built a fanbase, now he will drop his album and if it's hot it will sell and if it's wack, den he can try again.

How would Jay know??? He's never had a classic in his life. He wouldn't know how to make one. Jay Elec can make one fresh off the streets easy. And lol at Jeezy, 50, Kendrick lamar, etc. having classics or anything near it. Them niggas ass.

i thought this bitch ass nigga said he turned the league out with reasonable doubt. shout out to Jay Z exposing his jigga warriors once again as mindless, backtracking homos who follow his every word and contradict themselves. i hope yall motherfuckers know he just admitted RD wasnt a classic album. Jay Z is so full of shit its pathetic. what a way to motivate you crew by telling them they will be wack and underpromoted

Artist Development is a lost art in the internet age . Thats how you make artist that change the face of music not just be one hit wonders . All Motown artist went thru artist development along with the Curtis Mayfeilds of the world . Hopefully J Cole , Elect are talented enough to fulfill their potential .

What he's saying is artists need to let themselves be manipulated by the corporate suit wearers and media conglomerati so they can't drop an album that's staying true to themselves.

Personally I feel like Jay Elect is ready to lay a golden egg right now. He seems to have been through alot and has alot to say. As for J.Cole, I don't think he'll last as he is now. There's nothing about him that's unique. He's nice-guy, ladies love him, and he talks about real shit like student loans and college days...but none of that ish matters if you can't put it together in a clever fashion that sounds good to the ear.

But then again, Fabolous had the same problem some years back and now he's developed a clever punchline flow that has made him more popular today than he ever was. So Cole might not be dead in the water...he NEEDS to develop his own sound though. Right now he sounds like a nigga who raps as a hobby.

Nah b Jeezy been spittin for a MINUTE b4 he got on he used to have braids. As for 50.... that nigga had 1 album & 3 mixtapes b4 GRODT dropped. He had Power of the Dollar, God's Plan, Guess Who's Back, 50 Cent is the Future and then he was also working on G-Unit. That was 3-4 years b4 he blew up.... Shit even Wiz Khalifa I was hearing bout him in 2007.

I agree with what Hov was saying & ironically in an interview Lil Wayne & Baby said the same thing when ppl asked why Tyga aint come out yet. Go & look at The Source list of classic albums, all of them niggas were puttin in work b4 they dropped classics, Hov was on the scene back in 92 but aint drop till 96. I think Nas is the only example of a nigga who didnt really build a base b4 hand & just put together a dope album & then got a deal off a demo and blew up.

J.Cole has sooo much potential its incredible, hes really on a another level, but in order for him to do well they need to groom him. When u rush into things u stumble & disappear as quickly as u come in the game but wen u take ur time u can build relationships with the right ppl u can get those guest appearances on big singles, u can get the endorsements cuz companies can see ur body of work, u can get the big tours cuz u have songs u can perform & not just one song and much more. J.Cole can take as long as he likes just as long as the album comes, cuz in between that he will always keep fans hungry with mixtapes - it aint often u get a mixtape that gets 5 mics/XXL & perfect ratings (for Friday Night Lights).....

I just don't see it in him. When he's not talkin about bitches his subject matter is straight. His way of presenting it is just mad average though.

Lmao, 50 was around for a long time before he dropped GRODT and he was on more than one label. Honestly seeing this makes me look @ everything thats happening in a whole new light, and this is coming from someone who has been critical of jay because cole and jay e are prolly my fav 2 artists in the game who haven't release debuts yet. I said this when he signed them and now maybe it's true, he didn't sign two artists that come with that "hit maker persona" so maybe he really is trying to put out the best product possible...
