J. Cole is just a rapper. Rappers aren't important to the black communities. Nobody is going to do anything positive cuz a rapper does it or says to do it. Most black ppl w/ common sense already do positive shit w/o the influence of a rapper b/cuz they have common sense. Only dumbass ignorant niggaz do dumb shit cuz they were influenced by rappers who tell them to do stupid shit. So they dam show aint goin be influenced by positivity.

He's a nice emcee tho. Friday Night Lights stay in heavy rotation.

FALSE. i bet u if every rapper in the 90s n 80s was talkin bout goin to college it wouldve led many black youth to doin the same. rappers are teachers, idk why ppl havent realized this yet, u go to highschools what do u see? kids wearin hip hop apparel, how do they talk? they say what they hear rappers sayin. dont knock the influence that rappers have on the community becuz it plays a HUGE part its deeper then rap man, theres a reason why the mainstream promoted gangsta rap, they made it seem cool n everybody wanted to be like 50 cent when they was in they teens.

white people stay winnin, its pretty disgusting once u think about it

Smh @ the historical revisionism. The people who wanted gangsta rap were black. White people in the music industry were reluctant, but they eventually gave in. There was actually a time when the hip hop world was upset that someone like Will Smith was winning grammys. They wanted "realer" rappers to win. Stop trying to rewrite history. (Needless to say, of course, that the black people who wanted gangsta rap only wanted it because of the accumulated effects of white oppression.)

You're kidding, right? Fashion, clubbing, alcohol, drug dealing...c'mon, son.
I bet you trashed ALL your throwbacks 'cause Jay-Z said it.
Now you wear button ups and Louis Vutton loafers while sippin' Ciroc (j/k, but you get the point)

Besides, I'm pretty sure she's talking about influencing those that might not necessarily be on the right path.

But dude actually said in his interviews that he was able to buy time without having to work a 9-5 because of college. I guarantee there's someone who tried to rap that's kicking themselves for not using that as a plan. Someone is going to try to travel that same road. Whether or not it works, they still come out with a degree or at least some "higher education." And, like other artists with lyrical dexterity, the fact he spits lyrics that require at least some thought (maybe not for us, but for young'ns) will make someone smarter as they're trying to comprehend and process everything he's saying.

exactly what I was saying. ppl do the right thing cuz they already got enough sense to do that shit not cuz J. Cole says so. Only dumb fuckz walk around and do dumb shit cuz sum dumb rapper told em to.

there are a lot of dumb and/or confused kids. i think ya'll are forgetting that even if he's nobody in your area, he'll at least influence a kid or two in NC.

and though kids don't know him like they know Drake, I've already had some of my middle school students come up to me and talk about J. Cole when we were covering the poetry unit. I had at least 4 kids hit me with the "Gary Coleman just died. Life is short" line 'cause they saw him spit it at the BET hip-hop awards.

i understand opinions, but it's like ya'll are really trying to avoid the possibility that a rapper could influence someone to do something decent.

I neva had throwbacks. That shit cost too much for me in high school. and No, nobody goin stop goin to the club, drinkin, and sellin dope cuz a rapper said don't do it.And since when did what type of clothes you wear had to do w/ positivity and negativity unless you wearin it inappropiately?

they don't have anything to do with positivity and negativity.

i was pointing out that rappers definitely have influence, particularly on the dumb people like you mentioned, but also on fairly smart individuals. could've stated it better i guess.

eh.
