Longevity is an inflated stat unless you were great the whole time
But Kanye wasnt writing all his rhymes (this is well documented)
I agree with your premise but he cant be on that level because as has been said there are rappers who have great skillsets then there are rappers who are great artists.
Kanye really lacks in the skillset area but is the greatest or 2nd greatest artist we've had
But the artist who have balanced them (and done it well) deserve the nod over him. Jay;3000;Nas;Cube; BIG;i dont really put pac up there but whatever; even Rakim was great creatively- i dont need to get into his skillset
Kanye definitely fits into that Top 10-12 range. If you get to the teens and dont have 'Ye ill stop listening

Thats what cracked me up about Watch The Throne and my generation of fans so quick to not even listen to the music but run on twitter etc. and talk about how "Kanye outspitting Jay!!!!!"
Kanye has had so many "coaches" & Outside influences (Note: this does nothing of my perception of him or his music. With Kanye and me its always about the final product. The big picture)
Rhymefest
Mos Def
Common
who knows what Pusha T even Big Sean are doing. Thats part of what Kanye great- he listens. He takes advice he asks for help with rhymes, beats whatever. He respects others opinions
But at any given time Kanye walks in the studio with 10 people helping him create (Mike Dean; Jeff Bhasker; Hit Boy; shit even Charlie Wilson)
Jay enters only with Guru and his brain

i agree with this at the end of the day his albums will stand up to the greats in my opinion. but just pure mc skills he's not on their level but it takes more than lyrics to make great music

late registration is production masterpiece to me i don't say that shit often

i never understood that label

it was more the times when he debuted and our need to label and put a category on everything.
50;Jadakiss;Cassidy; Smack DVD all reigned when Kanye debuted. Every new artist HAD to be a gangsta or gangsta-like
Everything Kanye did was opposite that plus the fact he was more aligned with Common & Mos Def who had that dumbass "conscious" label
Factor in his singing and the way he dressed. The Bear; The Backpack etc etc

Yea.....whatever. Everything I've read on that subject, Rhymefest has been real hazy.

What it seems like is.....Rhyme basically had a version of Jesus Walks but, was a local artist. Kanye took his chorus, and did his own version to it and made it a classic..

That's no different than Game's situation with 50. Rappers "steal" songs from local artists all the time. Fuck outta here with that shit. I need more instances of Ye doing that besides that bullshit story.
