Lyrically kanye is better than pac

As an artist he's better than all of them

But as an mc kanye cant be mentioned in the same sentence as Biggie,Jigga and nas

and if he got shot tommorow he'd gave more of an initial claim then those guys too...well not jay and nas but big and pac especially... he deintely not as good a rapper but its more appreciated for his music prior to his death

I aint even saying he's better LOL...

But to say he's not one of their peers is hilarious.

Discardin' production...I think he's up there...Like if he made the same albums but some other nigga produced them...he's still up there...

I agree with the threadstarter. Eventually, though, Kanye will be even more than a hip hop legend, he'll be an overall music legend like Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, etc.

QJ and MJ are completely diff. MJ is the biggest pop icon of all time. QJ is arguably the greatest producer of all time. Kanye is neither of these and he's definitely not one of the best rappers ever. I'm not taking away anything from Ye cause he is a great artist but he doesn't belong in the same convo as these rappers.

You can't say that without saying why not.

Longevity?
Classic material?
Sales?
Growth?
Skill?

If its just skill. That's bullshit. Im guessing you're using that criteria to grade him. You know if you honestly used that same criteria for Big/Nas/Pac/Em............them niggas would come up short on a few areas too.

What makes him a great mc? How is he better then Scarface, Ghostface, Cee-Lo and 3000?

That's exactly what criteria I'm using. That's how rappers should be judged by skill. If were talking about production then no doubt in my mind Kanye can be considered one of the best but rapping? No. Rapper/producer? Yes

What everyone else said.

His catalog is so good that he deserves mention with the greats. But he aint nearly as good a rapper as those dudes.

THATS how u measure a great mc? you have a list of rappers lyrically better than Scarface, Ghostface, Ceelo and Dre? and then a list of rappers lyrically worse than Scarface, Ghostface, Ceelo, and Dre?

Okay then.

Longevity - He been out for 8 years and has remained a superstar the entire time.

Classic material - College Dropout, Late Registration and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Sales - Every record has went Platinum.

Growth - He's reinvented himself 3 or 4 times LOL

Skills - He's dope enough. Not as good as Big or Jay but, enough to listen to.

That's 4 out of 5 (skills being the weak part). Where's Big's longevity at? Where's Pac's longevity at? Now obviously.......I know them niggas got killed and had no control over dying young but, the point remains, they didn't have to deal with the hardship of being able to reinvent themselves over and over again and remain hot. Something only a few niggas can do. Jay did. Yeezy did. Both those dudes got killed and became immortal. For all we know, Biggie could've lived and fell off by 2001. Pac probably wouldve quit rap and been somewhere in Sudan helping African orphans get clean water if he didn't die. If Yeezy loses points for not being a master rapper, Big loses points for having the same amount of albums as Drake.

As for Em....his career is still going strong but, he's a caricature of former self.

Nas......no longer a superstar and hasnt been one for a while. Scarface type of a rapper where his core fanbase supports him.

Basically.....outside of Jay, theres not many rappers who have remain hot and delivered dope music over a long period of time. Yeezy has. Been doing it since 2003/2004. If that aint legend criteria, I dont know what is man.

Ye doesn't have the flow, delivery or storytelling for me to consider him a great mc. He sounds like an avg rapper with a bit more passion. His production outweighs his lyrics by far sorta like Dre, Gangstar and everything No Limit and Cash Money.
