The "Greatest Laker" conversation is different than the "Greatest Player" Conversation ...

In the former discussion, there are a lot of contextual factors being considered outside of the players ability and overall accomplishments.

This list has Byron Scott as a "better Laker" than Wilt...

Does that mean that Byron Scott is a "better player" than Wilt Chamberlain? ...

Kobe is arguably the Greatest Laker for a lot of reasons, but on my all time list I wouldn't put him above Magic, Kareem, or even Shaq

when I think of the lakers the first name that comes up in my mind is still Magic Johnson ,Him and Bird SAVED the Nba so on Lakers Impact alone, Magic is number one for me, with Kobe second, The Lakers are the Lakers because of Magic, he was the face of the franchise in the Era when they became a sport phenomenon

Kobe holds the following Lakers' records:

Minutes Played

Steals

3pt FG made

FTs made

Field Goals made

Points in the regular season

Points in the playoffs

Points in the season

Points in a half

Points in a quarter

Most games in the regular season

Most playoff games in the regular season

Most seasons played

Most playoff seasons played

Most all-star game selections

Most all-NBA first teams

Most all-Defensive first teams

In other words, Kobe is the greatest Laker of all-time and it's not even close. Kobe would also embarrass Magic on the court, so stop the bullshit.

This guy said it all.

Man it's an endless debate to be as nitpicky as to try and list a top ANYTHING in numerical order. "Nah he aint 4th hes 6th!" Fuck outta here there will never be agreements.

Tiered listing is a much more logical way of doing things. Best way of defining a tier is "If I'm starting a team now, I would take all of the players in tier 1 above the players in tier 2. All of the players in tier two over tier 3. etc...' And the tiers are not in any order, just a big group.

For example:

Tier 1

Mj, Lebron,

Tier 2

Wilt, Kobe, Magic, Kareem

Tier 3

Shaq, Hakeem, Duncan

Tier 4

Big O, Isaiah, Barkley, Bird, Curry

etc....

Keep in mind doing it this way leads to more of a player vs player basketball wise as opposed to accomplishments vs accomplishments. It is also based on the current NBA climate. So there's flaws, but cross era comparisons are nearly impossible anyways.

Wait.... you would take Kobe over 3 7 footers? Really?

In this day and age, yes.

I would value an all time wing with kobes skillset over most all time centers.

I agree.

What I conceded was that there is an argument for Kobe. Which is not really something that can be denied at this point.

I noticed nobody has Dr J in their top 5

Erving won three championships, four Most Valuable Player Awards, and three scoring titles with the ABA's Virginia Squires and New York Nets (now the NBA's Brooklyn Nets) and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers. He is the sixth-highest scorer in ABA/NBA history with 30,026 points (NBA and ABA combined).

@ the bolded. What does most playoff games in a regular season mean?

Also, Kobe might hold the record for most points in the regular season or most points in a half, but Kareem Abdul Jabbar holds the record for most points period. He just played on two different teams. You can't take that away from Kareem. He got drafted by Milwaukee and played there for a few years before he got traded to LA.

Jordan, Oscar Robertson, Wilt, Magic, and Kwame Brown...... Nah just bs I'm torn between Shaq and Kareem Shaq was more dominant but Kareem got more rings and the unfuckwitable skyhook fuck it i'mma roll with Shaq.

Typo, should read "Most playoff games".

With Kareem, that's cool, but Kobe scored more points AS A LAKER, and we were discussing who the best LAKER was.

By the way, Kobe also has the following ranks in the Lakers franchise:

Top 5 in assists

Top 5 in blocks

Top 5 in defensive rebounds

Kobe's name is all over the Lakers. Like I said earlier, it's not even close, he's the GOAT Laker.

the same people who never saw russell play and praise him as a top 5 player even with his 44 fg% and scoring 14pts as a center are the same people who say Big L is top 5 since he died lol foh Russell cant fuckin be top 5 because of his rings only ,if so that would mean pippen is better than lebron... Russells' role in the celtics was the same as Ben wallace on the pistons, important ? yes VERY but that is not enough to be top 5
