Does a college degree guarantee a job/career?
I always believed that this rhetoric that was pushed by W.E.B. Dubois was detrimental to Black Americans because being educated does not guarantee a job/career; however, I do agree with Booker T. Washington's theory of Black Americans owning land, being the head of agriculture, and understand the economic of the land; was the smartest theory to established generational wealth amongst Black Americans. He always stated that the person who owns the land, rules the land/country ( not verbatim, but pretty fucking close). Unfortunately, not many Black Americans took to Washington's ideas due to it being to radical for them to understand, but they understood education and the importance of it that was pushed to Black Americans to attain.
Does a college degree mean you will be successful?
No, a college degree does not mean you will be successful in life because it is not a guarantee in our modern times. However, a college degree does assist a person with establishing an upper hand to getting a job interview over someone who does not have a college degree.
do people know what successful is?
I believe that most People of Color do not have an actual representation of what real success looks like. Speaking from the perspective of a Black American, our representation of success is a Black man who is in any professional sports league or a Black woman who is an entertainer, which is an anomalous representation of true success.
If People of Color had a real idea of success, then they would prosper because they would have an attainable goal to achieve; instead of being one in a million chance to have that hit record or signing a contract promising millions of dollars.
what if they dont go to college and become successful?
Going to college is not a clear correlation to being successful. Hard work, determination, asking questions, networking, failing and dedication are the attributes of being successful. Because if a person is focused on achieving their personal goal of being successful, then they would do anything to have their goal attained.
is it more "successful" people with degrees than those that dont have them?
I am not sure of that statistic at the current moment, nor do I want to look for it because I am actually taking a break from my homework. lol
is this way of thinking flawed? or is it about getting a degree and having options?
There is no right or wrong way of thinking to be successful; however, I do believe one should get a degree/certifications just to having options and more opportunities.
