Is $30,000 A Year Still the Norm?

30k is like $14 to $15 an hour I think. That's not poverty yet in Louisiana I believe. Fast Food don't even pay that much and if they did, it's a management position. That shit is basically the working class poor. Too rich for benefits, but too poor to miss work. You still buying Surefine products and the chicken in the fridge has the logo of the store on the pack. Probably working two jobs if you got kids or your wife is working as well. Stay at home parenting is out of the question for either of you.

Then again, that shit might be poverty level now. Back before gas was $4 and shit, a nigga could of probably done well with $30k.

iunno.. im actually thinkin about the kid.. i mean i know everyone's upbringin was different but where im from me and those who grew up around me aint have shit... our parents didnt have shit.. and they parents didnt have shit.. nor theirs.. and the parents before that were slaves...

i mean when does the cycle ends..

is a dad better served at home takin on menial jobs jus to say he watched his kid grow up.. or out providing a better life then he has for his kid??

30k a yr aint go do shit for that kid.. but least he got to hug his dad at night!!? nah..

that kids gonna grow up and hate his father.. and if its a girl she may run into a nigga like me..

somewhere down the line someone is gonna be tired of bein average.. so as a parent wouldnt it be better to make the sacrifices so that ur kid or grandchild doesnt have to??

Why are you acting like it's either 30K or 100K? I was just pointing out that the positions that pay employees 100K+ require OD long hours, tons of traveling etc.

Here's the thing... If you know what you're doing you can work a "regular" job making 60, 70K and come out a millionaire via investments, 401Ks, IRAs etc. in due time AND still be involved in your kid's life. Especially if your wife is on your same status.

... In sum, we all know the father is just as important as the mother is when it comes to raising children. Who else is going to teach the kid how to act like a man or give him advice on how to move in certain situations? Who else is going to teach your daughter, how a man should treat her? If you want to be a multimillionaire, wait to have kids, because once you have kids, they are now or should be your number one priority. If you're not involved in your kid's life, you're not giving him/her a fair chance.

im makin it like its 30k or 100k cause its bein made like a nigga cant make over 100k and want to make more and not be apart of his kids life...

Making $50K+ in FLA.

Well Funded E-Fund, Padded Checking Acc, and a 401k type deal, Decent Mortgage and No car payment for the past 3 years.

Im doing good, but I know folks at the job making round the same thing I make living paycheck to paycheck. You gotta make the money you work for, work for you.

Yes you can make over 100k and still be very active in your kids lives. Yes there are people who make alot of money who still aren't happy. I've ran into and work/worked with some. Hell I'm going to meet with someone later today who is fucking miserable yet clears far more than 100k/yr because of how stressed his job makes him. That's where the disconnect is. Making alot of money doesn't equal happiness to some people...and for some folks in some that type of stress isn't worth the money overall.

Lol @ old heads in here bragging about their money like their 10+ years of experience didn't play a role. You should be helping the new college grads get their foot in the door instead of this get money, fuck everyone role. Y'all niggas dropped the ball big time as far as progression as a race goes, due to selfishness and bullshit but that's a different topic.

... Yes you can make 100K and still be somewhat active in your kids life, but what about your girl? yourself? Now you have to sacrifice your relaxation time or your social life. Like I said earlier, I know a lot of niggas who make 100+K and they have miserable lives because they never get time to rest their heads. Learn how to invest and you can do it all. Money isn't the end all niggas, and money is certainly not what defines a man.

Btw just so we're clear, 100K in NY, D.C etc. is extra regular. Damn near everyone in the finance and tech field makes that. I hope y'all not in here playing yourselves when you live in one of the big cities. The 100K I was talking about is more than 300K in those cities.

Talk to 'em. These dudes don't know how to invest their money. 50, 60K is enough to be more than good. And if your girl is making the same, money will never be a problem for y'all if y'all know what y'all are doing.

These dudes don't know the game. They work hard instead of smart.

c/s. and as black people we gotta step it up and end the cycle

Yeah, it depends where you live. 30,000 is alright if you budget according to where I live. 40,000 you can have some cool nights like 2 times a month where you spend some cash. I make 40 grand a year.

To show you how life works..

I havent smoked weed in 3 years.. I had a 5 day weekend off from work this past weekend because of the snowstorm. I decided to face a blunt for old times sake over the weekend.. I come in to work today to find out the the company has been bought out and the new admin is screening all the employees over now for their records..including a drug test.. tomorrow.

Nigga.. im about to lose my job. W..T..F..

So I quit ^that^ job (didn't want next employer to call them asking why i was fired) before they tested me and had no job lined up.. Been working there for the last 2 years, and was making less than $20,000 a year smh.

Fast forward a week later, I've got an interview on Wednesday for a job that will pay between $65-$72,000 a year... Kicker?

My brother is the person interviewing me.

tumblr_inline_n1vq1mIith1qa9g65.gif

nigga im bout to be GIT NIT.

what kind of job is it?

Cable Technician. But because its through a contract company, techs get paid per job instead of hourly. Each job pays between $50 and $250, 4-5 jobs a day, 5 days a week.. bada bing.

My brother's been doing it for 15 years and is at the point where he's in the offices now. He lives comfortable, but he has a whole family and mortgage, car payments, etc. Im a single dude, no kids, no major expenses and have had time to learn what to do with my money before I actually started really making any. So i'm just looking forward to putting plans in motion. All goes well, by the time I'm 30-32 financial freedom should be in full swing. Inshallah

speak for yourself homeboy. goddamn niggas assume too much.

just because YOU cant do it or choose not to, doesnt mean the next man cant.

problem is cats like you have that small mentality think 100k is a big deal... coming from someone that makes more than that... 100k STILL aint shit. i'll feel more comfortable when i pull in a quarter mil a year

show me that 50k a year backyard and then tell me more about how much better off your kids are

The amount of money isn't a big deal, it's the amount of work and time that comes with making that kind of money. I much rather make a decent salary, invest that money and have time to play with the kids, take my lady out, and have time to relax on a regular basis vs. being in the office 10hours a day, going a business trips with no real time for my family or myself.

The tradeoff isn't worth it. I'm not going to live life playing some game of how much money I can make before I die. That shit doesn't move me one bit, and like I said earlier, I'm not wired that way.
