I"ll probably catch flack for this

But i never understood all the love for Nas

I get Illmatic and It was Written

But idgaf about dude like that as an rapper

Thats wild

But i guess im kinda similar to Jay Z

Reasonable Doubt is a masterpiece but other than that i dont find his discography that great.

He has great tracks here and there but his albums are full of skippables to me

Tupac

I'll take heart on a track over super lyrical any day....music should be from the heart and not how you piece words together

Nas got heart felt music. One love, black girl lost, We will survive, Dance, to name a few.

Yeah but it's not close to tupac at all

Nas is second for me

And Pac is nowhere close to being lyrical, creative or a good storyteller as Nas.

Yeah but pac make a better music overall which is the most important....theres a ton of creative ideas in hip hop or super lyrical verses and stories but I'll take the real music over that anyday

Illmatic probably the Goat album of all time. Cut it out.

But it's not....me against the world > illmatic

All eyez on me and 7 day theory > all nas albums not named illmatic

I actually get what you're saying. Pac made good music, but he did seem pretty limited compared to other greats. I think Bonnie and Clyde was probably his most creative song.

And while Pac made good music, but it was kinda all over the place. He couldn't figure out whether he wanted to be a revolutionary or a thug, someone that anted to build up the black community or someone that wanted to tear it down.

As humans we are all over the place...thats part of the greatness....no matter the mood...theres a Pac song for it...its not all just the same feeling song after song like some rappers have

Agreed. Nas is king

The most effortless rapper i've ever heard was Biggie, but his catalog isn't deep enough for that title.

I'll go with Jay-z because he is the most complete rapper i've heard as far as technical abilities (flow, delivery, stage presence, and his ability to write every type of record). As far as catalog this man has 5 classic albums imo (RD, BP, BA, American Gangster and 4:44).

I agree with you in all of this except that Jay had a few weak albums in his catalog. Jay is a great technical rapper but mchg, kingdom come and vol1 stain his resume. Same reason I left off Nas. I am, nastradamus and street disciple kind of water down his catalog. Jay and Nas had some great records on those albums but the bad songs make the albums average in my opinion.

Nas. Nigga made some of the greatest music I've ever heard. Album wise, 4 classics plus all the miscellaneous material.

If I had to name 5 cats who gave me some of the greatest shit I've ever heard and are still living?

Nas, Ghostface, Common, Lupe Fiasco & DOOM

That's fair. I guess for me I like a little consistency in the message, at least on the same album. I like Pac, but I think his lifestyle and death tend to overshadow his music sometimes.

Jay has never made a weak album to me. I think he's made some average albums (MCHG, Kingdom Come, etc). Same for niggas like Nas, Ice Cube, etc. To me weak albums is shit where less than half of the shit is unlistenable. Even on his average albums he has dope shit.

A definition of a weak album to me is some shit like Eminems Encore.

Volume 1 is probably Jay-z second best album lyrically. Aside from I Know what girls like ain't no wack track on that album and no Sunshine is not a wack song.

Sidebar... Does greatest rapper include live shows because Jay and Nas love shows were trash for a long time

Jayz was the best live concert I've ever been to....back when he did the tour with 50 not so much but I've seen him twice since then and it was great

Nas isn't bad live either...but not the best

There needs to be a Pac thread I kno' I've said this a buncha times but how how how can niggas consider him GOAT

I think it's because his persona was larger than life. From a music standpoint he made meaningful songs and was pretty prolific, so those are points in his favor.

Every rapper mentioned so far has made meaningful songs and plenty of them.

I dunno man seems to me that Pac the legend >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pac the artist

Yes, and no. I mean what songs does Jay have that are on par with Dear Mama, Brenda's Got a Baby, or Keep Your Head Up. Those are timeless songs. And I'm not saying that Jay and others don't make meaningful music, but those songs are 20+ years old and they have the same impact. Not a lot of artists can say they have an abundance of those kinds of songs.

I do agree his legend is greater than the reality, but you can say that about a lot of artists both alive and dead.

What hate though? In the 4:44 topic, I said it wasn't a good album, and half the people in the topic acted like I was crazy.
