I know that, I'm just saying that they socially engineered what dominates the airwaves today, because there was a time where women and white people who are major consumers in the mainstream supported all kinds of rap AND STILL WOULD IF IT WAS PRESENTED TO THEM WITH THE SAME VIGOR AS THE OTHER KINDS.

All genres of rap sold records in the 90's before they decided to only promote certain kinds which fit their marketing and advertisement schemes outside of rap (cars, clothes, alcohol, jewelry, weaponry, drugs, prostitution.) mainstream rap has been mainly used to promote these products for almost ten years now.

The music industry shut out the East Coast in the early 90's 1st.

Further, they shut out the West Coast in the mid 90's second.

At last, they shut out alternative rap in the late 90's third.

A few seeped through the cracks, but evidenced by the Lupe situation, they're not trying to have that anymore. So it's over for the major label blueprint as far as rap music is concerned, so whatever's left out there is going to continue to die AND INDIE AND UNDERGROUND RAPPERS WILL CONTINUE TO GROW.

True dat.

I know that, I'm just saying that they socially engineered what dominates the airwaves today

Who exactly is they??

They don't even matter no more..Labels are going under..HIS system is dying..

I know but they are the ones ones who are responsible for the damage already done & 95% of what's on the airwaves.. our music is good in the indie and underground outlets though. NaS & Lupe need to go Indie.

Most of the indie acts can't compete with the exposure of major machine acts..Think about how hard its gonna be to start reversing the damage these majors have done with indie type exposure..Its not impossible but think about it..Hip Hop needs alot of reconstruction work done to it on a mass level before we can deem it alive again

When niggas are starting to state that Waka Flocka dropped a classic album, thats when I know something is not right

Damn How did hip hop become so wack, watered down, homosexualized, overly demeaning etc?

Shyt is starting to sound stale..

How Many times can you hear the same kind of song over and over?

I'm feeling you. I been on my Neo-Soul kick for a while now. Everything in Hip Hop is the same. The same song, only the beat change.

Just do what I do... continue to expand your experience and/or knowledge of real hip-hop.

Download (and if you like it, buy it) all of *insert legendary rapper here*'s albums and give them a real listen and try to understand why he's so highly respected amongst his peers.

...There's plenty of good music out there that you haven't been exposed to.

In brief, fuck this new version of hip-hop aka hip-pop. You can't do anything about it. The only thing you can do is support the good stuff or start your own record company and/or come out with your own music.
