There's a lot of good rap that came out this year. "How I got over", "Sir Lucious", "TML" (to a certain extent), "Recovery", and "The Dark Side" were all solid releases.

Naw..Just what I see everyday..Hip hop mainstream wise is extra lame..

I agree. But I’m sure there is some new and dope artists you listening to? As much bullshit that is on the radio, I’ve listened to hip hop my whole life so I can’t let it go. Speaking for myself, I can listen to a lot of different kinds of hip hop and rap music. It just depends on the mood. There should be a balance of what is played in the mainstream. I just think mainstream radio is catered to kids and women.

I haven’t read through the thread yet, but what artists do you listen to on the daily? I would even branch off to other genres of music and then come back to it.

yea man its up to us to be promoting artist that grind n come out wit real shit, n we doin a good job, from the internet to the XXL mag, we puttin in work, we just gotta stick together n hope that good muzik can break into the mainstream as well. o n i think if Nas came out with a better single they wouldve got way more recognition, thats a very important part of the game as well

Most of the indie acts can't compete with the exposure of major machine acts..Think about how hard its gonna be to start reversing the damage these majors have done with indie type exposure..Its not impossible but think about it..Hip Hop needs alot of reconstruction work done to it on a mass level before we can deem it alive again

It's not about competing with exposure because indies don't have the funds of majors, but they're still putting tons of music out and doing shows, which is how rap music started in the first place. the indie and underground is great.

I understand where Supreme is coming from though and some days I feel like pulling the plug on Hip Hop myself. But I view this bullshit music period as a "re-cleansing" stage... like back when all that commercialized dance/pop shit in the beginning of the 90's like Hammer/Vanilla Ice was dropping then the Renaissance 93-96 era kamikaze'd the pop shit and brought everything back in perspective, then Diddy reverses it back to the dance/shiny suit era, then 2 years later DMX, Pun and Eminem comes back with the focus on lyrics again... so to think about it it's like a cycle. Who knows what another year or two could hold...a special artist could come around and make lyricism and content the focal point again. J.Cole has the potential but something or someone isn't trying to make it happen....and we all know who that is.

Maybe you just bored with rap. Dunno. As for me, I'm not going to force myself to hate what I obviously enjoy just because a man isn't "lyrical". I been banging that Flockaveli for the last 3-4 days. That shit is heat.....I'll buy and bang the hell out of Lost Tapes 2 and even give J.Cole a listen when he drops. Nothing wrong with branching out...
