Its really how you define the level of success and if you're willing to give props to others that done it before Jay-Z. Case in point: Commericals - Plenty Emcees has been doing that before it was popular. When it was looked at as selling out for going there. Same with TV & Movies - Before it was popular. Books, shit LL was the first to drop an Autobiography, as well as kids books & Workout training books - all best sellers. Of the elder emcees, LL and ICE Cube are getting paid constantly for their heavy rotated commercials respectively. Latifah, Will, Ice-T are rocking $$$ off syndication, while L is on CBS. Uncle L owns his catalog so whenever someone uses a piece of it, he's getting $$$. Will Smith, Latifah & Cube all have production companies for movies & TV, While LL linked a deal with SONY for the virtual studio. I do give Jay props for having everything he's done out there for the world to see.

Cube, LL, Latifah, Smith, Miller and Ice T all acted, directed, produced, owned and had or have distribution deals with hollywood studios and all of them made the transition from "black" movies to high box office blockbusters.
