Great thread. I try to talk to my younger family members on topic like this. Either they don't care about what happen in the past or its too much information for them to take in at the time. But we can not give up on the youth, they will understand in do time.

because they have the immigrant experience, we have to stick together to survive. plus langage, cultural differences with the mainstream culture, and nostalgia pushes specific ethnic groups together. Plus many black immigrants experiences prejudices from black Americans as well

Talking to my Uncle who lives in Brazil it has to do with that they never really divided except in social classes but would be quick to protect their own people from an foreigner. We don't have that thought process here. The culture is much different and it's all about me me me me me.

To think somebody is your friend or on your side because of their race is extremely naive and a mistake. I think his story proved that. That man was influential and did his thing in his time. Malcolm and Martin were like good cop/bad cop. I dont think MLK and the Civil Rights movement would have been successful without a more radical alternative waiting to fuck shit up.
