There is no such thing as an "American Indian" unless you're talking about Indians that have come here and gained citizenship.

I AM Native American.

I've posted my tribal paperwork here in the past because it came into question. Yes, I'm mixed, but I'm a card carrying member of my tribe with a federal roll number.

And we definitely don't call ourselves "Indian".

I guess its less a black thing to do and more of a liberal white thing to say. Scared to offend type shit.

I'm Quechan, formerly known as the Yuma.

Yes, I'm aware of AIM and the whole Red Power movement, but I learned about it later in life. I was raised by a fairly militant stepfather so my whole upbringing was all about Black Power and the only thing I knew of my Native side was it being brought up once in a blue moon during visits with my father. All good though, both struggles coincide with one another as does Brown and Yellow Pride and, in truth, we should be exposed to all struggles of minority peoples in this country.

I have worked with a lot of Indians. I'm somewhat close to a few.

The most memorable moments of hilarity in my days on the job were watching white people explain Thanksgiving to real Indians and the absolute perplexed faces they make while listening. Then they look over at me like "you buying this shit?".

To add in...the hilarity of some indians pulling my black ass to the side like "hey brother, why do some Americans call them Indians?"
