The Massacre - very high first week sales (1.1 mill)
- broke record for most sales in 4 days
- promoted by beef (piggybank)
- mixed reviews from critics ( but more favorable than C4)
- fans disappointed http://www.metacritic.com/music/the-massacre
2011
The Carter IV - very high first week sales (964,000)
- broke itunes record in 4 days
- promoted by beef (it's good)
- mixed reviews from critics
- heavily disliked by many fans of Carter III, fans very disappointed http://www.metacritic.com/music/tha-carter-iv
2 albums later 50 cent is a shadow of his former self
part of why 50 fell off is extreme hype that he couldn't match with his album and over-saturation of the market
I'd say Carter 4 did not live up to the hype, and Wayne has just about over-saturated the market
so is lil wayne about to fall off?

this nigga 17 years in the game now
lamontbdc;3272851 said:depends how you look at it. i mean musically he's already fallen off. but sales wise your thread makes no sense b/c he already did a milli with carter 3 that also got mixed reviews. then came right back with carter 4 with another milli. and if the carter 5 does 875,000 1st week i wouldn't even call that fallen off.

see a pattern? when you are putting out great music and selling well its great. But when the music quality drops, sales are short lived.
and Carter 3 is practically Lil Waynes first album from a 'fanbase' perspective so this comaprison is legit

hot7777;3273026 said:Talent is all ones opinion so its up to the listener
but when the fanbase gets fed up with the quality of the music from the artist - there is a problem.
Go to metacritic.com, see the reviews from the fans. People that purchased Carter 4 are not happy with the quality of the music and many prob. wont cop any more from wayne.
hnic1978;3273050 said:the same people wasn't happy with Carter 3 and see what it did. Those same people that wanna see Wayne fall (like u) are still gonna check for his music. Hell its gonna be people thats gonna buy it just to hate it......what kind of stupid shit is that???

If Carter 4 was well received, I would tip my hat to him and not make this thread but see:

So let's just pretend his other 5/6 albums did nothing at all for his career. he just popped up and sold a million.
dmtxcannabis;3273135 said:interesting thread premise, but grodt was 50's debut, and wayne had several solo lps before c3, as well as his work with the hot boyz.
h-rap 180;3273142 said:lil waynes career started off slow and he built up steam and now he's at his peak, 50-cent peaked on his debut and has gone downhill every since.
50-cent loses 500,00+ fans every time he drops an album while lil wayne maintains a solid fanbase of loyal supporters.
50-cent was a gimmick that isolated himself while lil wayne has shown unity and brought people together within the industry.
