Hip hop is in a better place now than it was 5/6 years ago

Man, I come back on this site and see Jamaicia still up to his old tricks and HRap still droppin knowledge. If you go back to those threads in 05/06 you will find cats saying how that current generation was wack compared to cats from 00/01 and so on and so forth. This happens all the time and people tend to forget all of the things that happened and try to focus on the bad parts. SMH...but props to Hrap for that post. Brought back a whole lot of good memories and was on point.

While the quality of rappers is improving the people who are actually getting exposure is narrowing even more, so i cant really agree whole heartedly. One good thing is that a lot of these new rappers have the tendency to keep it atleast moderately real despite how boring and/or insignificant their lives really are.

At least I know the future of hip hop is in good hands. Back around 06/07 I was worried with soulja boy and plies being considered the "future"

Lupe came out in the worst era as a lyricist. That was when these kids could not comprehend a 16 bar verse to save their life. If you were not an established rapper, you had to be a dumb ass rapper with catchy hooks and beats for attention, or you starved.

There is some kind od tendency to bitch about everything happening at the time. Wherever it's politics, music, movies or condition of living, people are always complaining. Hip-Hop is in better place right now plain an simple. At least there is some breathe of fresh air in the music, diversity , creativity and hunger among young MCs. I take J.Cole, Saigon, Kendrick Lamar, even Drake over Ying Yang Twins, Lil Jon, Mims or Jacki-O anyday.

I believe mainstream music is still trash. its a lot less ringtone rap and simple club tracks (even though those will never die). The quality in rappers is about the same. what changes the game now is the fact that EVERYBODY downloads mixtapes or bootlegs so underground rap or less known rappers get more followers than they did 5 or so years ago. plus a lot of rappers were in line to blow up...just needed the dust to settle on all the dance records

I couldn't disagree more . The quality of music was better. From the tracks from the one hit wonders to the heavy hitters of the game. A 06-07 lil wayne >>> 2012 lil wayne; A 06-07 Kanye West>>> WTT Kanye West; A 06-07 Jay-Z>> WTT Jay-Z I can keep going. I wouldn't even say the quality of artists coming in the game is better. A lot of big faces we see now came in the game round that time. Wale,Lupe,Wiz etc etc . Jamaica just saying this because the south had the game in 06-07. H.A.N

I would have to disagree. Right now with the whole crew thing and focus on lyricism is a good thing, but when I think of the last few big albums that came out like Take Care, Roman Reloaded, & Carter IV. They weren't that Hip Hop to me. The Hip Hop essence from 5/6 years ago to now has withered. Look at all these respected rappers like Slaughterhouse and BIG KRIT. They're having a hard time pushing their records.
