I do think it's funny how black women are always whining about how the media and society treats them, but then when Gabby and now Simone get some shine, it's black women that were attacking them for something so silly. If a white person had said something then all the black feminists would have been screaming bloody murder, but no one acknowledges that white people probably wouldn't even have a concept of what is a "good" or "bad" black look if black women weren't always in public bashing other black women for that.

ignorant comment

gabby was attacked by other blk women and some blk men because they had an issue with the way her hair was styled

the concept of 'good' and bad' hair is used by the blk community metaphorically to characterize beauty and acceptance

traditional European features being the standard of beauty

and in america blk women with softer, more subdued curl patterns have historically been given partial treatment over women who have kinky hair

the attacks in regards to gabby's hair was largely the result of internalized white supremacy, colorism... same as some of the critiques thrown at steph curry and drake

that said, I doubt most self aware blk women who speak on the intersectionality of race and sex in this country are the same one's who are attacking gabby

She reminds me of most of the ho's I go out with.

Dumb bitches stay swiping & texting on their phone. All while, complaining about "haters" who talk shit on their timeline.

Here's a bright idea. Leave the imaginary world of social media alone. Get money, and stay on your continued path to success.

The comments about Gabby's hair was about her tracks showing and the quality of the fake hair. It got brutal and real stupid. It was the same black women who love Beyoncés fake hair but hate her daughters unprocessed hair. The fake brigade is loud and vocal. (But cry real tears if you say anything negative about wearing fake hair)

I do feel it's a two things going on.

I think she is jealous of her teammates. Specifically Biles. You know how petty chicks are when one is getting more attention than her.

It's not just white people who are bullying her it's also her own people with the hair comments.

You are all the way off the mark here.

1) I didn't say anything about good or bad hair. I said good or bad look as in style. Your average white person has no idea what we consider good or bad in that regard so they wouldn't criticize a black person in that way.

2) What does any of this have to do with white supremacy or colorism? Y'all just like to randomly throw out buzzwords. You yourself just said the criticisms weren't really about how much her hair did or didn't look like white people's hair. Y'all will say anything to deflect blame away from black women. Women do catty shit like this all the time. You can go in any club any day of the week and you'll find chicks hating on other chicks the same way. It's like you think all bad behavior displayed by black people are white people's fault. That's not true. There is no shortage of blacks behaving badly all on their own.

3) Nowhere did I imply "conscious" black women were the ones bashing Gabby. My point is y'all are so quick to blame whites or black men for the mistreatment of black women, but when black women are treating each other badly, y'all are silent. Or you do what you just did, reach to find someone else to blame. It's white people's fault that black women are beating up on a black girl over the style of her hair? FOH And if you really believe that, why don't you afford the same defense to black men? We're victims of white supremacy too, but when we do wrong by y'all, it's cause we're shitty and no good.

Just my 2 cents...

I'm most disappointed in all the black people who talked bad about Gabby, made fun of her for her edges, took every second to try to criticize her, and mock her. The girl is 20 yo...Twenty years old. And grown adults were out there mocking her hair....for what? Is her hair competing? Is she in a hair event at the Olympics? Even people my age (I'm around Gabby's age) talking down on her and memeing the shit out of her life. People who are fucking bald, with no ambition, no future, no goals, no discipline, no sense of loyalty, no character, and nothing going for them in their lives...out here mocking and trying to break a young, black woman. For no fucking reason. Even going out of their way to create some aggressive and negative narrative between her and Simone.

This was the perfect time to uplift her...the perfect time to praise her for her accomplishments. The perfect time to support her and Simone, and hope to see both of them succeed. Instead I felt like...people were content having Biles out there. On some "We already found our replacement black girl...we can throw the old one away" type shit. I don't really know how to put in words how I felt...but it was disappointing to see. Gabby will bounce back.

*off the record: I also think Gabby is fine af...maybe a bit too muscular...but cute all the same*

You do realize that simply making your hair straight is pretty normal for women right? Even women w/ naturally curly/kinky hair. It's not a sign of embracing whiteness...it's just doing something different w/ your hair which women do all the time
