My nigga. You're trying to hard. There are a million ways to maintain contact with your fam and the people you love that don't include social media sites where you're being bashed.

she grew up knowing nothing but social media. she cant just shy away from it, nor should she have to

grown men using social media everyday telling a 20 year old girl to log off social media like its nothing

comical

and that's bullshit as well. I have a 22 year old and an 18 year old, both of which can tell you they grew up with their own PC's (my 18 year old has had one since she was 3) and NEITHER would say they "grew up with social media". FB didn't open up to everyone until 2006, but even then a lot of parents weren't allowing their kids to have FB accounts after the mess that Myspace accounts caused.

If it's causing a problem in your life, you need to let it go. This is the whole premise behind Tyler's statement that I posted:

If "cyber bullying" is a thing in your life, you can easily remove it from your presence by not being on social media. It really is that simple. Quite a few celebrities don't have a social media presence and they get along just fine.

You do know cyber bullying is just an extension of bullying offline too right? Would you tell a kid being bullied at school to just stop going to school? Or would you address the people actually doing the bullying too?

Not entirely true. This has been discussed at length by quite a authorities on the subject but the majority of what's said to people online would never be said face to face. The vast majority of those chicks talking trash about Gabby's hair would NEVER say that shit to her face and we all know this. The majority of the shit people say online in general wouldn't be said face to face. This is why videos exist of cats gettin mollywhopped for talking shit online. When the nigga they been callin a "bitch ass nigga" online suddenly shows up at your doorstep all that chatter ceases.

What power does social media have over Gabby if she simply does not partake in it?

Again, you're sitting up here arguing with me about this, but as I already pointed out, Gabby herself said she did exactly what people on here are suggesting she do. So why are you acting like people are wrong for saying that?

Damn that's petty & foul talking about her hair & I bet it's from accounts that have their beds on the floor & can't even afford cheese on a cheeseburger smdh

Dog stop it. You seriously acting like people are out of line for telling this chick not to take social media so seriously.

I don't care how old she is. She, like a lot of these kids nowadays, need to learn this lesson. Hell, older people need to learn this lesson too because they are the ones losing jobs and ruining their lives by putting stupid things on Facebook.

what lesson? what did gabby do wrong? participate in the olympics?

The lesson that social media ain't serious enough to let it disrupt what you're doing or how you're feeling about yourself.

Whether she did anything wrong or not is subjective and people have the right to their opinion even if most of those opinions like most opinions in general are stupid. Either way, she shouldn't be letting it take away from what she says is a great experience.

It's easy to say that when you don't have thousands of people telling you negative shit everyday. Hell some people can't take criticism or an insult from 1 person let alone thousands or millions having access to tell you they think you ain't shit

You're missing the point. No one is saying that she shouldn't be affected by criticism. Yeah, I can imagine that if she were strapped to a chair and force to hear what thousands of people had to say about her, it would be rough. However, the point that people are making is that she isn't strapped to a chair. She can very easily walk away from that criticism if it's too tough for her to take.

And I'm saying that for one...it's not as easy for some as it is for others...and 2 especially for someone in her position where even if you aren't on social media other people will let you know what's being said. Article says she's been avoiding it til a reporter brought it up again to her. So is she not supposed to do interviews?

Get. The. Fuck. Off. Twitter. And. Facebook! If you can't handle it, why are you on there? I think cyber bullying is way easier to get over than regular in your face bullying. There used to br a time when it was hard to get access to athletes, etc. If you let trolls get to you then you already lost. These are people who don't even use their real fucking names or pictures but they want to bully people. People think it's hard but it's not.

Nah she shouldn't be lettin' their bullshit hurt her but who allows their feelings to be hurt? There are real people behind the screens and on the phones, that's what's shes focussin' on.

Maybe to us guys who grew up without it it's easier to disconnect

right

telling her to "log off' while practical evidence is unfair to her ....and it doesn't mean the comments won't find a way back to her from family, friends, reporters, etc

I don't even understand what you're arguing at this point, and I'm not sure you do either. Walking away from social media should be easy for anyone, and if it isn't, you've got a problem. It's as simple as that. The need to partake in something so strongly that you continue to do it even to your own detriment is called addiction, and there are clinics for shit like that.

And I've already pointed out twice that Gabby was doing what people said and that it was the jackass interviewer that was really at fault not Gabby's inability to leave social media alone. So exactly what point are you trying to make?

I haven't seen my Facebook newsfeed for over 5 months & it was one of the best thing to do. Especially in this narcissist era that we are currently in

That simply walking away from social media especially when you have people asking you a bunch of questions and bringing up social media comments ain't as easy as you're trying to make it. I do agree much of the world in general especially younger folks are addicted to social media. It's not a good thing but it's the world we live in currently. Younger people use social media as a way to communicate and see what's going on in the world. When you become that topic of what's going on its not that easy to just log off when you know people are talking about you

Man them talking shit bout her hair last time and now was fucked up

I do think it's funny how black women are always whining about how the media and society treats them, but then when Gabby and now Simone get some shine, it's black women that were attacking them for something so silly. If a white person had said something then all the black feminists would have been screaming bloody murder, but no one acknowledges that white people probably wouldn't even have a concept of what is a "good" or "bad" black look if black women weren't always in public bashing other black women for that.
