I need to hear what he said exactly, that video doesn't show it. But from what they're saying , Future said what everybody says and knows: RD wasn't deemed a masterpiece when it was first released and Jay-z didn't become the "king" until after Pac n Big were killed.

This statement is such bullshit. Why niggas act like Jay had been in the game 10 years, dropped 4/5 albums prior to Big and Pac dying and didn't make any noise until they died.

Technically Jay was in the game before both Pac and Big, but I digress. Within the conversation they were having , there's nothing wrong with what he said.

Jay wasn't big until pac died....I guess the same could be said about designer...he really blew up when he killed future

Whether it got hype back then is irrelevant. It aged well and considered a masterpiece NOW 20 years later. Which is a true definition of a classic. No surprise y'all still say that dumb shit on here, same forum that will call a album a classic 30mins after it came out. Some of you got this classic labeling thing ass backwards here

Not "king" but popular, Jay said it himself he knew people were better than him, he had to dumb down. And RD wasn't a masterpiece at all, a lot of albums were way better when I dropped

Yall feelings dont matter Jigga warriors. Future stating facts. I dont even have to bring pac, east/west beef into equation. Fugees sold 22 million albums that summer and made a bigger impact than RD will ever dream about. Young niggas that were in them streets were getting smoked out, faded and banging to E 1999 eternal. Foxy and Kim had instant sex appeal and brought back the interest to the female MC. Outkast sold 3 million without the hurrah. Wu Tang was popular as fuck. Mr. Smith was still wild popular from Loungin remix and doing it. Then us southerners had the luxury of having an untapped state to state regional sound to fall back on. Cash Money, No Limit, Slip N Slide, Screwed Up Click etc. Back then you really had to have incredible personality or a gimmick to make the rap world stop and kiss your ass like how yall think hip hop did in 96 for Reasonable Doubt.

Yall need to stop taking it as an personal attack when niggas talk about how RD didnt take off. new Ny rappers was dropping a generic mafioso album every month at that time. hell IWW came out around the same time. RD didnt stand out or distingish itself from the pack. If it wasnt for the sing songy aint no nigga on the summer most popular movie sdtk RD would of completly went under the radar. Instead of taking it as an insult be happy Jay Z came so far from RD. He is a legend before our eyes. He said it himself he was bullshitting when he recorded it and it was supposed to be a one and done event. Obviously his rapping skills improved from that sloppy ass offbeat shit on RD to completely mastering different styles. His song writing skills improved and content within content improved. He raps about RD subjects now better than he did on RD. When you jigga warriors go so hard blindly for Reasonable Doubt you do a disservice to all his projects that he released afterwards. So yall mean to tell me that no other point in his career does he top that wack ass '96 flow?

Bias or not, even a clock is right twice a day. That RD = classic talk didn't start till after '98. That album came kinda late in the game TBH. That mafioso rap coke boy sh*t was already getting played out around the time RD dropped. That style was done and done better by other rappers. Other albums with similar content (OB4CL, Street dreams, even Doe or Die) were all better received. I lived in NY at that time and remember this era vividly.

So Jordan went on tv and started saying he was the greatest basketball player of all time after he won his 1st ring?

He didn't say anything wrong. Only people that try to discredit Jay use this argument against him like he was the only rapper that flew under the radar.

RD came out in June, Pac died in September and Big died in March. That's not nearly enough time to make that claim. That's the only thing I don't agree with.

musically reasonable doubt was fire.....but in the words of Troy Ave..." Nobody Cared" when it dropped cuz there were way more important players in the game at the time.....if Moms hasnt thrown away my old hip hop mags ill look for the Source award ( I think) article that reviewed RD before it dropped........essentially shitting on it

Jay wasn't on top until Ma$e retired. Get it right

I've been meaning to make a thread bout this....If Puff is all gangster and shit...how he allowed his cash cow to get chased out of town and out of the game

I don't like the 'so and so only became big when so and so died' argument. There's absolutely no way of knowin'.

I don't have a problem if others don't think it's a classic, imo it's his third best after BP and BA.

He told the truth. Outside of ny Jay ain't get popular til 98 when hard knock life Annie sing dropped. When pac said fuc Jay z other regions listened . Also the fast rap camp lo style wasn't tight to a lot of folk

Yeah see this is what I'm talkin' about. There's no way of knowin' if Hard Knock Life wudda banged in the charts if Pac and Big were alive. He hadn't realised a proper radio friendly song of quality like that up to that point
