He's using relational cultural therapy or some derivation of that initially. He is building rapport and reflects Freddie's emotions well, but not from the place of an expert. Freddie's language is implicit of depressed feelings and he accurately assessed that right away. But, a future clinician may want to consider Freddie's depression as being symptomatic of PTSD or CPTSD.
Freddie keeps linking this incident to growing up and that's what called centralization of events, but Singh is gently keeping him focused on the present problem. It feels like Freddie could just get into that dark depressing place that he's in (which Singh acknowledged) but Singh wants him to consider his strengths. He offers Freddie unconditional positive regard, but directs him to what is causing him distress. It appears that he's helping Freddie create a new narrative. Also this is one session, so anything that Singh does has to be solution focused. That means a more direct approach and in this case an attempt to edify the client (Freddie).
He empowered Freddie to feel some hope going out the door, this was a good session.
I'll be watching this show.
