I'm in the Marine Corps. I got less than 6 months left.

i got out the service 15 years ago. please, understand, u need a real exit plan. they dont give a fuck out here. it seems like that while youre in, but in reality, naw son. i know. i lived it. if u gonna do college, do that shit asap. know that u can file for unemployment. Try not to EVER go to the VA. that shit is nasty, and you gotta make an appointment just to go to the emergency room.

try to have a job lined up. 15 bucks a hr at the minimum. to start. make many more copies of your DD form 214. they run out fast. Try to stop drinking. mind ya attitude. KNOW THAT THE U.S IS GIVING FAKE LOVE WHEN THEY SAY THAT THEY SUPPORT THE TROOPS!!!!

u cleveland like me. if u coming back here, hit up temp services, and hope u coming back with a car cuz all the good jobs is on the outskirts of the city, but u know that.

six months is more than enough time to get ya ducks in a row. but please dont believe that you got a leg up cuz u served for this country. as a matter of fact, its a gift and a curse. alot of good jobs dont want real Black men working for them. it shows up the regular dudes. i learned that the hard way. i have a decent job now, after college, but i feel i got it because i didnt mention on my app, that i was prior military. all of a sudden, the struggle was over.

real talk.

Wtf, I got out in 2012 went to flight school gi bill paid for it, voc rehab through the VA paid for my flight uniforms and MacBook Air and ipad, and delta hired me straight out of flight school because I was a veteran, and the new VA Id cards you can go to any hospital in the country and the VA pays for it

guess we all have our different paths or nah? i was just spitting the simple shit. sometimes when we get out, we have a false reality of the world. be prepared. glad it worked out for u. didnt for me because i was a cop on the inside and refused to do it on the outside. best thing to do is go into the career field u did while in, right? while, i wasnt about to accept a job where i got paid to police my people. thats just how im built. and i struggled because of that stance. it all worked out. but they didnt make me need to become a cop just because i had the experience. but i feel ya post. no worries. goat from me.

Don't get me wrong when I was getting out the army didn't tell me shit that was available to me, had to find out everything on my own and companies just started fucking with vets because they get tax breaks for hiring vets

totally feel u. but im in the vet class thats forgotten. i got out before 911 and after the gulf war. no special benefits. ya gotta understand that. i worked it out too, but im venting, purposely, because we do get out blindly alot of times. i knew nothing getting out either. nothing. my first job was for seven bucks an hr within a month.

Thinking of getting out at the end of my enlistment, did 3 years in the army, and crossed over to the Air Force, comming up on my 6 year mark.

Did you ETS or did you get out early? I was at Hood as well 4th ID

I chaptered out early. My E6 & E7 pulled some bullshit. Said my commander didnt approve my leave to attend my grandmothers funeral. MOS was 92G. Come to find out my E6 felt like I was needed in the DFAC and that was more important. I went AWOL for three days to attend my grandmothers funeral. Got back and 1SGT told me I was out. I hated that shit so I really didnt give a fuck. During my reading with the Commander we were talking. He ended up asking me why I didnt come to him about the situation. We ended up learning about the bullshit my E6 & E7 pulled. I was in 1st Cav. Unit deployed I ended up pulling rear d. My unit kinda had me in a limbo. Wasnt sure if I was getting out or staying in. I broke ranks and asked the new 1SGT what they were doing with me. I was out 2 weeks later. BUT, since I found out my E6 & E7 did some foul shit, I was able to get out with a general under honorable discharge.

Oh ok, so you got out on an "other than general". That's not too bad, man I used to feel for the 92G they would be in the d-fac working like slaves on the weekend. I've always felt like cooks had it the worst.

Is it just for vets? I got about 2 yes left AD. scheduled to have my BA in accounting by next year but my old lady already got hers. She a west side rat too, hook her up lol

I'm the hiring manager for my company. I'm always willing to help vets or service members because someone helped me when I got out of the Army. In order to consider someone for a position I need a good resume, their security clearance needs to be intact and they have to be a Vet.

Also, if you're active duty don't even try...lol

Well I'm getting the fuck out if I can make 100k in 3 years. Wouldn't touch that on AD without my investments goin thru the roof. I gotta give you my email so we can link in the future. I'll PM you.

Cool,

Before you e-mail me, make sure your resume is updated and matching the job you're trying to get. Also let me know what level security clearance you have. And lastly, if you're national guard, try to find out if you can do your drills overseas, that's what most people do. Good luck :)

My main reason for getting out was me coming back as a contractor. I was working side by side with civilians that were doing the same job but they got 3 times the salary. I got out in 2008 to peruse this work field and I feel that it's the best choice I've ever made.

I'm a project manager right now. Work hand in hand with CONS everyday. It's the only field I would crosstrain into. Keep it hot for me!

That contractor shit ain't no joke. Got a friend who's father was marines scout sniper. Got a nice comfortable office job with the cia. Shit if I can go Rangers after I'm done would do the same thing.
