Nas made music for queensbridge with illmatic... Listen to Memory Lane... One love..etc

I do, It Ain't Hard to Tell and Memory Lane are my joints, but now the question is as you go through all his albums is Queensbridge still the focus or has the ppl expanded?

Nas talks about alot of things in his music. He has shown real growth since Illmatic. It may still be his best album, but his pen game is leaps and bounds ahead of what it was. His last solo album has classic material.

personally me being a huge Lauryn Hill fan, i'd say her peak was Miseducation but thats just me lol

Unplugged was so raw I bought it 3 times... Musically Miseducation is better but as an artist Unplugged can't be touched...
Lauryn put her soul into it and was talking about things that artist today are scared to talk about... Cracked voice and all you can hear her mature as a women
That to me is growth... Kanye had that trait... But dude is still taking about the same thing... New Life you can here the growth because he knows he will be a father one day amd he
Doesn't want his child to live the life he's unfairly living

growth is being able to go past where you started, it's an opportunity to branch out and incorporate different aspects into your music, a chance for you to bring new elements and experiences which your old audience might not be able to relate to but a whole new group of fans can, by applying different sounds and thoughts you begin to polish your musical abilities, you become broaden

True Nas was getting more personal but most of his music is speaking for the people
When he got on his other shit niggas was calling him out on it( like I am with kanye)
But with his recent music Nas is speaking for the people... Even the verse about his son on DR.
Niggas could relate

Nas has a chance to make a classic with his new CD. He has a chance to make a Hear My Dear... Can he pull it off is the question

He made those songs about queensbridge not just because he wanted to do it for his city.... But becuase in reality that was what he was living AT THE TiME .. He WAS the QB the things he saw the mood that he was in the stories he reflected on during that album came from the environment he was in ... It would be hard for him to recapture a moment like that because he doesn't live that lifestyle anymore...

I agree... But Kanye execution on his growth has not lived up to his potential is all I'm saying... He's still making good music
And he's still being Kanye but its like he's forcing now... It's like a person looking for love instead of love just finding him
Like I said before... He's like a 4.0 student in highschool getting a 3.0 in college

I'm a fan of kanye but I'm not gonna give him passes like I wouldn't give Wayne a pass for any of his music pass carter 2

Like Jay for vol.3 or Nas for nastrodamus... Just because undying love came out on nastrodamus doesn't mean the CD was good...

Blame Game is growth... Runaway is growth... shit Hell of a Life is growth

Very true ... The perspective he takes on these songs is IMO different than songs about relationships in the past.... Blame game runaway are somber ... It's almost as if he's saying look I'm fucking up, I relize this, and here's how.... This way I'm living isnt condusive to having a lasting relationship etc etc ... I don't recall him coming from that perspective before ... That's not anger or frustration with women like before... That's acceptance in mistakes ... That's growth... IMO you only get that after going thru certain situations in life... He'll of a life is another track that's just hedonism and gratification and reckless rock star behavior captured on beat... And he's just like it is what it is this is me.... Perfect set up for the end of the story told on that album...

By the way that was the first time I read out the lyrics to gorgeous ... I never caught that 30 rock/rocks - Alec Baldwin line .... That shit was cold ... One of his best displays of lyricism ...

Caught with 30 rocks the the cop was old and white like Alec off 30 rock ..... The implication is the guy who was caught isn't going to get a chance ..... He goes on to say "face it Jerome(black dude) get more time them Brandon(White Boy)" to further that point...

The thing is that Kanye is still an amazing artist. he puts out album after album and they are all great pieces of work, each different from the other but still collectively great. the thing that has changed with Kanye is his over inflated ego but that comes with the territory. I just really listened to Gorgeous and he was spitting on that shit. with CD he was basically an everyday person like you and me and as the years went on he got farther away from that. I don't expect Kanye to still be like CD because he is so far removed from the life before being one of the biggest rap stars. in ways Kanye has grown especially lyrically and production wise but his subject has definitely changed which isn't a bad thing. Kanye still drops music with concepts and great subject matter but its a lose lose situation. if an artist changes they get bashed but if they stay the same they get bashed for not pushing the envelope.

kanye is constantly changing but for the better imo.

When I think he falls off, I'll say so...
But he just came off the most critically acclaimed solo album of his career
He hasn't fallen off yet

Says who? If that's your opinion cool but it seems to me like you're going off on what critics say. To me Kanye hasn't fallen off but i've just grown a little tired of some of his shit (including some of his music) and the last time i really felt him was Graduation. Niggas is overdoing it though saying he fell off after College Dropout smh. I just think the whole "fallen off" thing is misunderstood cuz some people go strictly based on popularity, some based on skills (which is subjective), some by music (again, subjective), some by financial status and things like that, there's no real definition of that saying.

kanye has progressed while still making quality music. we as people have changed as we gain more life experiences. so in the case of kanye it reflects in his music.

Music is definitely subjective
I think I said it back in the thread...
But again I don't think he fell off musically, which is what we were arguing..
what we were also talking about is whether he progressed as time went on
But you really only got two indicators of someone falling off 1) commercially and 2)critical acclaim wise
He hasn't done either so I don't see it

ocelot was using 50 as an example, I think 50 fell off cause his music fell off, type of reviews he gets reflect that
but he also fell off in popularity as well, people got sick of him

but arguing musically is subjective for sure
