The term "real Hip Hop" is basically just being real to yourself. If Tyler likes to do weirdo things to create attention for himself then to HIM that's "real Hip Hop".

If Lil Wayne likes to dress up in zebra striped leggings then to HIM that's "real Hip Hop." If Jay-Z likes to gather himself around everything European because he considers that a better life for him then to HIM that's "real Hip Hop". If Nas likes to express his Afrocentricity throughout his records and reminds us about it on every song then to HIM that's "real Hip Hop...etc, etc.

The question is: Can muthafuckas have the right to like or dislike it without their fans catching feelings?

I completely agree
Real hip hop is subjective
but plenty of people believe it only means 90''s boom bap, and everything else is "just rap" or not "part of the culture"
and thats what he was speaking out against
same elitists will speak out against shit from the south as not being real hip hop
and this coming from someone who is as far from the south as possible lol

the Reason loves it because it shows disrespect for elitists while simultaneous taking an elitist stance...
this mentality contributes to the failure of the genre to gain true respectability and credibility...
every genre/profession shows respect and admiration for those who laid the foundation...
to do otherwise shows immaturity, and lack of intelligence...

That's when you assume we take a stance that only encompasses present day music.. and present music only
we acknowledge our history.. very much so. Shit I know I do. As for Tyler, he was going crazy talking to Nas in that XXL feature as an actual fan.
we just acknowledge new shit as well

I don't know who is worst.. The elitist hip hop heads who are really narrow minded or the people who scoff at and are proud at the fact they aren't knowledgeable of the genre past anything that came out in the last year.

Both are annoying as fuck to me. I consider myself a hip hop head.. Call me nerdy but I love this rap shit so I study it.. but I wouldn't call myself an elitist because I listen to everything and a lot of the shit I listen to is against "rules" of being an elitist. These backpacking ass dweebs who act like it's a crime to listen to Lil Wayne are terrible... but then the anti-elitists who are so proud and feel so cool about never listening to an AZ record just come off as ignorant.

Fuck both of them.

And I don't believe in the "real hip hop" shit to me. If you rhyming over a beat that's real hip hop. End of story. The rest is a matter of preference. Soulja Boy is just as hip hop as Rakim. Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean you should be able to discredit their whole craft.

Not even.

Just everything yall had has to be put on this untouchable pedestal that we can't even compare anything that came post 2000 to for whatever reason. Even blatantly obvious shit. Lupe Fiasco a better lyricist than Pac? Oh god forbid!

It's also how people look at the 90s through rose color nostalgia glasses like all of you niggas was really only listening to Tribe and Nas. Then turn around and act like Waka Flocka and Soulja Boy the biggests artists of our generation.

And how is the opposite an elitist stance? By welcoming our own music?

I know people in real life who are like that. As many pompous and arrogant elitists (who always make themselves seem like such nerds) as there are, there's people who go out of their way to shit on our forefathers. Maybe it's some "since you disrespect my music I'ma disrespect your music" mentality but both of that shit is wack to me.

And these goddamn elitists have it to the point where if I get caught listening to an EPMD record people are gonna automatically assume I don't fuck with Young Jeezy. I hate how every fan has to be so fuckin labeled. I understand that not everyone is gonna listen to everything. But let muh fuckas breathe and shit b.
