Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP 2 Discussion Thread (Nov 5th)

Relapse had dope production, but the subject matter and delivery were not enjoyable for me.

Recovery had decent production. It reminds me a lot of lasers production wise: pop-radio-friendly beats and choruses. It has a few solid songs though like 25 to life and spacebound.

Encore is better than the previous two albums in some ways. Like Toy Soldiers was actually a good single. One of the few serious Eminem singles and at that time it was an important message. The songs that were good are better than the songs that are good on relapse and recovery. But the songs that were bad are much worse than the songs that are bad on relapse and recovery.

They arent white tho, its ok for black people to hate Eminem cause hes a racist.

Based on something he said when he was like 14. Because the rest of us were all fully formed evolved human beings when we were freshmen in high school

LOL..

You crackers stay tryna downplay some shit..

Em was 20 years old when he made that song..

Using racial slurs to explain using racial slurs are bad? ummm, ok. He was in high school when he recorded the song. I was wrong for saying 14...he was 16-17. My point stands. 16 year olds are the fucking worst across the map.

On the first of two tracks recorded in 1993, an audibly young male, who says he's Eminem raps,

"All the girls I like to bone have big butts/ No they don't,

cause I don't like that nigger shit/ I'm just here to make a bigger hit."

The second track, made in 1988,

featured Eminem rapping about a black girlfriend he broke up with.

"Blacks and whites, they sometimes mix/

But black girls only want your money, 'cause they dumb chicks,"

he rhymes. Later in the freestyle Em raps,

"Never date a black girl, because they only want your money/ And that shit ain't funny."

Em was born in '72' bruh..

Do the math..

This idiot is really defending that racist tape by Eminem?

I'm not defending it...I'm saying that just MAYBE somebody can evolve and change their beliefs over 20 years time. Are you really proud of everything you did or said in high school? Do you want to be held accountable for it when you are in your 40s?

What does that have to do with anything?

This is fukkin hilarious!!!

Im not gonna defend anything, but when y'all dont like something, Y'all go in huh? It's like Im watch The Muppet Show and this is the Statler and Waldorf hour......If you dont like it, fine. But those tweets and some comments on here are way overboard.

I found the album very mature and I dont go into anything with expectations....I didnt judge it based on it being titled a sequel and Im about the essence of Hip Hop. I havent heard an album with as much dedication to the essence of Hip Hop as this....

I dunno, maybe it's my age that makes me have a different view on artists than most ppl in The Reason.....

IMO Rhyme or Reason shows the frustration with Em... The Sample Flip is dope and Em ripped the beat and flowed over that shit like nothing...but when he sings the fucking chorus smh shit is terrible he should just kept it using the sampled hook.
