I want my children to think for themselves and view the world with an open mind, like myself.
That is what I'm teaching them. There's more to everything that we see and read and it requires further thought or research.
My beliefs now differ than they were 10 years ago. Then, I had a belief in god and viewed the world a lot smaller. Now, I'm an atheist and I view the world bigger. How things work, who controls them, why etc.. Definitely not what my parents are or were. They're pretty closed-minded.
I would hope my children will grow to be smart people who make their own decisions and not allow religion to dictate their lives. I definitely would be disappointed if they decided to be religious but I wouldn't let that be known and it wouldn't change our relationship. I would never want to ruin anything with them.
The only thing I would never stand for is racism. If that was their view, I'm not sure how I would handle that. Hopefully, based off my parenting, they'll make wise decisions within the group of friends they'll make.
