DMV niggas, why the hatred?

I go to school in D.C. Crazy to me that yall city is basically a smaller scale version of New York City and yall don't have one ambassador (read: huge, superfamous rapper) to rep for yall. Philadelphia too. I dont get it. Miami is smaller and has more famous acts.

You can think of one super huge rapper/ceo/label for every city except D.C. (and Philly to an extent)

Brooklyn: Jay-Z (Rocafella), B.I.G (Badboy)

Queens: Nas, 50 Cent (G-Unit), Ja (Murder Inc), LL Cool J

Harlem: Camron (Diplomats)

Staten Island: WuTang

Bronx: Big Pun

Atlanta: OutKast, Ludacris

Miami: Ross (Maybach Music)

Houston: Rap-A-Lot, Scarface-Geto Boys

Los Angeles: Dre-Cube-Eazy E (N.W. A), Snoop, Tupac

Bay Area: Too Short

Chicago: Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common

Detroit: Eminem

New Orleans: Lil Wayne (YMCMB)

Toronto: Drake

Philadelphia: Will Smith?? Beanie Sigel??

D.C.: Wale??

Baltimore: ??

i feel you but i gave up on that hostility. my cousins do the same shit. They live out waldorf talking bout well i spend my summers in the city so i tell ppl I'm from the city not waldorf. That shit will never stop. so i gave up the fight. When i went to morgan state every nigga was from DC. And I'm like shit I've only seen like 6 of yall actually in the city. It's usually the niggas from MD that are from the rich areas doing that shit. Like niggas from suitland just say they live out suitland. But a nigga from upper malboro or bowie gonna tell you he from uptown. Not sure from where uptown but they from uptown.

I understand being from the city and the county...I lived all over the Delaware valley. When i went to school down south and niggas asked where Im from, if I say..."I'm from Wilmington, Delaware", I got to explain to a room full of dumb niggas where Wilmington, Delaware is when I could just say I'm from the Philadelphia area and be done with it. Not lying because I lived in Philadelphia growing up, I just now live outside the city limits. It's probably alot easier to say you're from the DMV/D.C. than to say you're from Alexandria, Virginia or some shit.

But....telling niggas from out of town where you're from and fronting for bitches/niggas back home are two different things, the latter being wack.

I'm out of Clinton in PG County right now, originally from VA (Hampton, moved to Alexandria) and if I rep anything I rep DMV because Southern MD, Northern VA, and DC are so intertwined.

I can't speak on niggas reppin DC and not being from there, the niggas i be with dont do that shit, however we ride in and out of DC

Dont understand the hate, DMV we need to do better!!

I grew up on Suitland Rd and part of the reason for that is because depending on where in Suitland you're at you can just walk into DC...shit DC is literally the stop light across from where I'm at right now...so for niggas that grew up in Suitland everybody already knows Suitland, knows it's reputation etc so there's no need to say "i'm from DC" even though all of that shit is the south side of shit anyway...and also mainly because niggas rep individual neighborhoods so if you say your hood you have to say where it's at and which side of the DC/PG line it's on

This is the problem we have here...

folks claiming to be from here or folks claiming to be from there...

Ur not real if ur from the suburbs and not the city and all that other crap..

I mean really tho, who cares where your from or what you rep...DO UR THING!!

The DMV is a transient area, people come and go, but we always get hung up on whether or not they are from the city or what neighborhood they from..

and they ain't wearing these foamposites or these nike boots or whatever..

DMV will never have anything to call their own....face it..

The funny thing is other artists from different regions incorporate the "go-go" sound in their music and blow up over it...but DC is the home of "go-go" and we can't do nothing with it..

It's really stupid... We really hold ourselves back in every way possible..

I'm from all over the dmv and the world, the Fort, Alabama Ave SE, Largo, Arlington, Alexandria, Springfield, Hampton, Newport News, Germany, Korea, Italy and etc..

I've been all over, most folks here ain't even left their own town or venture to another part of the DMV to see how they do it.. it's really ridiculous, I had to introduce my own crew to va chicks, now these fools are all over va.

I'm hoping someone has the patience one day to give the DMV a chance, there's alot of talent out here, folks just need an opportunity.

yea true. Never thought of it like that niggas say they from so and so b/c of the rep. I stayed with my aunt a few years on southerm ave. and our side the street was Dc but the other side was MD. shit still all the same though.

sidenote don't go to that ihop round congress heights by the new giant. service is the worst

man the new Friday's in Penn Station is terrible too, but you know it's only a matter of time before that shit gets closed...hell they done had 3-4 murders in that parking lot alone this year...2 were people coming out of Planet Fitness...how you kill a nigga after he finish working out? that's cold....and most people who grow up in PG/DC hop the line at some point anyway...i don't know anybody whose been around here their entire lives and at some point hasn't lived on both sides of the PG/DC line which is why the whole "I'm from DC" shit is really only bothersome when it comes from people from places like Upper Marlborough, Waldorf etc...if a nigga from Seat Pleasant says "I'm from Uptown" or "I'm from DC" won't nobody trip because of where the city/county boundaries are...most neighborhoods like Southern Ave are half DC/ half PG so for us who grow up there the connection to DC doesn't need to be stated...but for those who are more than a 3-4 train stops outside the city lines, yeah they are stretching it by claiming DC...

Yea my girl didn't even want to go over there b/c of that shit. It's just that select few of ignorant folks that won't ever get it and continue to fuck up the growth. Then they the 1st ones screaming bout there is nowhere to go on the southside.

All the shit you said regarding niggas claiming DC is true. Funny shit is me and my girl looking for a house and it's either waldorf or greenbelt.

SMH at niggas acti'n like it's an honor to say you're from DC. I say I'm from DC to outta towners b/c it's easier than saying "Oh, I grew up in Northern virginia, and live in Fort Washington now." "Where's that?" "Both are about 15 minutes outside the city" "WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST SAY dc?!"

It's not to look cool, it's easier, and given the fact that the beltway, metro system, metro bus, and all other forms of transportation connects everywhere, you might as well be from the city.

man they still got the fliers hanging up on the carryouts around there asking for information...and it's even worse with the businesses that's been in the lot where the liquor store is now...that place gets closed/reopened ever couple years cuz of violence in the parking lot...and it's funny you say that...my uncle has been living out in Accokeek the past 3-4 years, right off 210/Indian Head Highway like the end of PG right before Waldorf...and he's DYING to move my aunt and their kids back into DC...they still got their house in NE too so he's trying to move back into the city now...said he can't stand living that far away from DC

Yea i got some aunts that moved out to Waldorf. And for the most part when i'm out there shit seems cool. and they got liquor stores that don't ever close or some shit. We were leaning that way b/c their property taxes are way cheaper than PG's shit. I keep telling my girl that i'm not gonna know how to act when I'm out in MD and the carryout is closed at 10. And where do i get my green from out there? But we stay in her folks house now. Her parents moved years ago and let me and her take it over. but now her pops wants to sell. But on some cool nigga shit her parents letting us have half the bread to put on a new house. I'm taking half of that shit and putting that up for my daughter's college. The problem is finding a regular sized house. we don't need these big ass 4/5 bedroom junts with 2 car garages and shit.

Its a difference between saying that wwhen out of town and saying you're from there to other people in the area

man those houses out there are nice, but idk...i just feel a certain type of way about those neighborhoods because none of them have side walks...everytime i go to my uncle's house i'm paranoid some kid is gonna run into the damn street because there's nowhere else for them to walk lol....

Good to see people that are REALLY from that area chiming in. But from the outside looking in, it seems like the DMV doesn't support each other. When Wale was just another rapper repping the DMV nobody had a problem with him, but when he got signed the same people hate and give the classic excuse of "he think he better than us." It seems like with how yall treat each other that he had to have a sense of entitlement. Just my opinion from the outside lookin in

I like Wale a lot. I dont care where a nigga reps, its about good music to me and he makes pretty good music. I didnt like when I first seen him, but that wasnt about his music, I thought he was one of them corny hipster rappers(and I didnt like his first mixtape, wasnt really hate, I just thought it was medicore. But after I heard a couple of random joints, I was like this dude got some lyrics and flow). I know he gets hate now since he came up, but thats with anything in life not just rap. People always hate on people who obtain success. Might be that crab in a bucket syndrome lol
