I wish I could get rid of those social sites. It ruined my life. I just tried using Facebook once, but I deactivated it after 4 days of using. It sucks!

Just do a few searches for yourself (or your friends if that makes you feel more comfortable)

You'll see how much of your shit is floating around the web.

this link is Google's FAQ section about removing yourself from their search engine. Im just delving into it, so I don't know everything. Search things like "Digital Footprint", "Removing my information from the Internet", "Removing my private information from online", etc. I know Facebook/Twitter photos are pretty much the tattoo ink of the web. Its there for life.

good lookin on dem links

Just be careful what you post, I see no reason to be afraid of it or delete your profiles. Keep anything you wouldn't want anyone to see off of those type of site, I don't think it's that serious. It's all in how you use it, of course stupid people post all their business and illegal shit they do on there, you just have to be smarter, that's all.

this.

Shit im in the military and grew up in a military family, if the govt. or any other entity wanted a complete file on me, they probably could've done so even before I got an FB.

lol. you good then. Im 23. At 17, I definitely was not thinking about corporate america. I never posted wild shit but, dumb muthafukkas posted photos of me doing wild shit.

I've never had any social profiles (i.e. myspace, facebook etc), but if I'm doing something with someone and they put that photo of me online can it get traced back to me/my identity?

I think some people get cultured shocked on the computer. They are use to running their mouths, about whats going on, here and there...however when they are on the computer they run into personalities they never met in real life, and some people do not know how to communicate to people they never met.. in some cases some people get you confused with people they already met, assuming alot about a person and jumping to conclusions, when the only thing they have is a myspace/facebook profile to judge them by.

Well if you would had gone through google it's a link that you click on that sends you directly to page on fb to delete your page permanently once you hit that submit button. Then they give you a scheduled date of when it will actually be released.

Yeah some folks don't know how to use the internet properly and don't think about the shit they do but when it's time to apply for job and employers go looking into their background and finds all type of shit and they wonder why no one wants to hires them.

i get you...but im 37...when all this social networking popped off i was in my late 20s...i wasnt at the stage in my life where i was posting pics of me high...lol

was way past that...by then i was married with 2 kids

We >< here bruh. I'm a bit older than you, but when BP was poppin, a bruh had a lil page up and shit but never anything foul on there. I had that shit for less than a year before figuring the shit was a waste of time and closed it. To this day no FB, no Twitter, no friendster or none of that shit, not even a LinkedIn account. Fuck that. I already know what's goin on with that shit. Just look at how easy it is for these IC niggas to run exposures with nothing more than an email address!!! Shit, I got the complete rundown on one IC chick from just some shit she had in her SIGNATURE (full name, relatives, home address, phone number, criminal record, etc).

Y'all young niggas are gonna learn the hard way. Social networking was one of the worst things to happen on the internet.

Never been on any social network......my social network is my Droid. Everyone i'm tight with can access me thru text or phone call.

I knew years ago back in 04 what Facebook would turn into. My homeboy deactivated his Facebook back in 05 he did a google search on his name and his Facebook shit is completely wiped out, nothing showed with his name. My homegirl deleted hers last year. She then did a google search of her name and lo and behold it automatically pulled up her "deactivated" Facebook account. I guess before Facebook became so big it would still delete everything but NOW...that shit is public domain to the fullest.

And take into account Mark Zuckerburg is a Billionaire. How did he become a Billionaire thru a service that is supposed to be "free"?

Simple...thru selling profiles to companies, agencies, gov't. Cuz everyone put all of their damn business on Facebook.

I'm 25 now and predicted all of this shit at 19. And it came to fruition.

Besides Twitter and FB, I don't fuck with none of that shit. And even on those two, only certain shit goes up. No way you should be posting anything on their that paints you in a negative light. Regardless of your age, you should be savvy enough to know that.

niggas like you kill me.

"if you don't have anything to hide..."

It ain't about hiding anything. People have a right to privacy, plain and simple. If you really want privacy, you would never put a shred of your personal info online at all. Look at it like this: Remember the IC chick I mentioned earlier? The starting point for me finding EVERYTHING about her was her social network page she had in her signature. Doing a google search from there I got her current address, her criminal record (drug related), phone number, relatives... all kinda shit. I showed another IC chick just what's available on herself online during a YIM chat and the results I believe shook her a bit. Fact is, more of what SHOULD be private information is being pushed online and that's reason alone to never put even a small piece of your personal info online.

Good post, especially the bolded...I'm pretty sure NSA keeps tabs on everything though, not just Facebook (although it is the main one.)

It is....What it is.
