I've seen some comments on how can Parker show the rape of 2 black women yet not show Nat Turner killing white women and kids on camera. Apparently one of the rapes in the film never actually happened he just threw it in the movie just because

I am going to say this... the author of the article is both right and wrong. it is important but it is not important for the reasons people are saying. from a historical standpoint we don't know much about turner. any movie about turner is speculation about what the writer thinks his life was like. if u go see it because u want to see this black man rise up then u are going for the wrong reasons. the nat turner rebellion is probably top 10 and maybe even a top 5 slave rebellion in history but if u looking for the rise up story there are other rebellions u can read about it.

turner's story is important though because of the fallout. he was able to read and write so they made it illegal to teach the slaves to read or write. we still feel this right now. the belief that we shouldn't be educated started way back then and in 2016 they still talking about schools in the inner city gotta catch up.

go see the movie but realize the importance of this story is not nate yelling rebel but the chain of events that happened after turner's rebellion was suppressed

I doubt that was the message Parker intended because he said its his faith in Christianity that not only kept him going when trying to get funding but also through the controversy of his past now being a main topic and that from his POV Turner was acting a man of God doing what he did
