But check this out, this is the last season of the show and it seems like a regular season with a regular villain who could've shown up at any time in any season before this. There is absolutely nothing about this season that makes you say "Finally! This is what we've all been waiting for and what the show has been building to". There are only 3 episodes left and we still have very little tension and no danger of Dexter being found out or having to pay for what he's done like we had in season 2 or when LaGuerta figured him out last season. Maybe someone close to him might die like Deb or Harrison, but I doubt it will mean as much as when he found Rita in the tub.
-Fam has become a simp who makes stupid decisions and only killed 2 people this entire season.
-The Brain Surgeon is nothing special, unneeded and unnecessary to the final season of the show.
-Miami Metro is still completely clueless as to who Dexter really is and most likely will never find out.

With all this Deb going back to the force or not shit, I think the big offing point is going to be a do-over for her. It'll probably come down to capping Dexter or Quinn or Batista, and to show she's grown past him, she'll kill Dexter or at least shoot him this time.
It'll probably be a "He's dead" ending for the characters to move on with their lives but a "He's alive" ending to the viewers with some kind of campy-ass montage of all his kill rooms with a voice over--Debra more than likely eulogizing him or reflecting on him to sell the "he's dead" angle to the viewer--before a camera shot following a guy walking down a dark alley that we'll assume is Dexter until he suddenly falls. Cue Mike C. Hall stepping out of the shadows and smirking into the camera with a syringe cap in his mouth before the credits roll.

Basically, they spent most of the episodes building towards finding out who the Brain Surgeon Killer is and ignored him once he was exposed in favor of this pointless Hannah plot.
This makes all the "Who is it?" episodes almost pointless. You could cut off every episode before Vogel's son is official, reveal everything that happened in those episodes in dialogue, and lose nothing. How does a TEAM of writers not see that is horrible television?
