Ive been black balled from the local contractors since '13. I wouldn't be mad at Kaep going back to the NFL, but that shit would be a hard bottle of ether to swallow. Kaepernick called Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe on Thursday night, after word emerged that Dr. Harry Edwards, described as an advisor to Kaepernick by USA Today, claimed three teams had reached out to Edwards about Kaepernick. Sharpe shared the contents of the conversation Friday, on FS1’s Undisputed.

“[Kaepernick] says, ‘People keep putting out that I’m asking for nine, ten million dollars,” Sharpe said. “Shannon, they don’t know what I’m asking for. I have not talked to, my representative has not talked to [teams].

“What I find even stranger,” Sharpe added, “is why are teams reaching out to a sociology professor and not calling the player and his representative himself? Dr. Harry Edwards says he’s healthy enough to play, but he can’t answer the question [of] does he want to play? You would think, you’re that close to Kaep, you don’t know if he wants to play? This is not adding up.

“Here’s something else,” Sharpe said. “It seems to me that everything that’s starting to disseminate out is coming from one organization. That’s the former organization that Colin Kaepernick played for. Now [49ers G.M.] John Lynch said early on he knew for a fact that one team wanted to sign Colin Kaepernick. It’s hard for me to believe that he could know that when he didn’t know the Chicago Bears were gonna take Mitchell Trubisky. . . .

“And what I find that since so much information is coming out of San Francisco, guess who’s been a paid consultant to the San Francisco 49ers for over 20 years? The very advisor that these alleged three teams have called. . . . Why would you ask Harry Edwards, who’s a sociology professor, whether or not Colin Kaepernick wants to play and whether or not he still can play when you can pick up the phone and call Colin Kaepernick himself, when you can call his representative yourself? . . .

Harry Edwards said that guess who we works for in the NFL? The San Francisco 49ers. And John Lynch said Kaep was near a deal and it fell through. Who are the teams that are interested? Don't they leak that out at a point? It is the 49ers making or leaking bullshit

Carroll: Kaep, RG3 among backup QB options

Pete Carroll said Monday that Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III are among the backup quarterback options that the Seattle Seahawks are exploring.

During an appearance on 710 ESPN Seattle's "Brock and Salk" show, Carroll explained that the team is looking to add competition behind Russell Wilson, and he was asked specifically about Kaepernick and Griffin.

"We're looking at everybody. We really are," Carroll said. "We've been tracking everything that's going on, and we've got cap and roster issues and stuff like that that we're still trying to manage properly. But quite frankly, yes, we are looking at all those guys."

Wilson has never missed a start during his NFL career, but he battled through three different injuries in 2016. Undrafted free agent Trevone Boykin backed Wilson up last season and is currently in line to do so again this year. Boykin was arrested on misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession and public intoxication in March. He was arrested later for possibly violating his probation because of the same incident.

Several Seahawks, such as Doug Baldwin, Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril and Jeremy Lane, spoke out in support of Kaepernick when he knelt for the national anthem last season.

This offseason, cornerback Richard Sherman and Bennett said they thought Kaepernick was being blackballed by NFL teams.

In 12 games last season, Kaepernick completed 59.2 percent of his passes, averaged 6.8 YPA and threw 16 touchdowns with four interceptions.

During the Week 17 finale against the Seahawks, Kaepernick went 17-for-22 for 215 yards and a touchdown.

Colin Kaepernick has blackballed himself

Is the NFL blackballing Colin Kaepernick? Only his hairdresser, some players and much of the media seem to know for sure.

Yes, they say. And sort of like Kaepernick, they’re not going to stand for it much longer.

The Washington Post wrote Tuesday that if Kaepernick isn’t signed soon, “the allegation that he is being blackballed by teams league-wide won’t just be credible. It will be self-evident.”

It is already credible and self-evident.

It is also completely appropriate. The fact so many people find that incomprehensible shows how they live in a separate bubble than countless football fans.

First, “blackballed” would mean two or more teams have colluded to deprive Kaepernick of a contractually earned right.

To prove that takes evidence. There is none that suggests Owner A sent an email to Owner B saying, “I just talked to Goodell and we’ve decided nobody should sign Kaepernick. Pass that along to Shad and Jerry.”

There is plenty of circumstantial evidence that nobody wants to sign Kaepernick. A conga line of inferior QBs have gotten contracts this offseason.

Meanwhile, the gifted Kaepernick still sits at home ironing his pig cop socks.

“His skill set vastly exceeds others who were on the market,” Eagles receiver Torrey Smith tweeted.

And that was before Arizona signed career nobody Blaine Gabbert last week. That really got the Blackball Conspiracy rolling.

Theorists pointed out how the NFL keeps signing miscreants like Joe Mixon but rejects Kaepernick, whose only offense is taking a social stand or kneel.

“Something stinks,” the New York Daily News reported.

What they smell is business as usual.

The NFL (and MLB and NBA and NCAA) have always accepted shady types if their talent outweighs the bad publicity. Mixon is worth the blowback. Ray Rice was not.

He was no more “blackballed” than Kaepernick, even if slugging your girlfriend is far more criminal than kneeling during the national anthem. But both actions offended millions of people.

The crux of this issue is that the blackball crowd doesn’t believe Kaepernick’s actions are worthy of offense.

“Unfortunately, he plays in a league that sells the flag and the military and the police as part of its brand,” according to ESPN.com

For shame!

What many in the media saw as a brave stance against police brutality, those gullible flag-waving, police-respecting fans saw as unpatriotic.

America is far from perfect, but its ideals are still worth standing for. Kaepernick took the acts of a few bad cops and wrapped the entire flag in them.

He didn’t intend to offend the military, but soldiers and the flag have been synonymous since Valley Forge.

Whether you or I agree with that doesn’t matter. A huge segment of America’s football consumers does not see things Kaepernick’s way.

Polls showed anthem protests were a major factor in the NFL’s ratings slide. Any journalist who claims Kaepernick wasn’t a divisive issue has not opened their email in eight months.

Kaepernick hasn’t apologized for wearing the socks that depicted cops as pigs or made much effort to understand the police version of any event. He has passed out suits to parolees and done all sorts of charitable work.

Kudos to him, but the damage is done.

Kaepernick is not just another 29-year-old backup. He became one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2017.

Influence cuts both ways. He single-handedly soured millions of people on the NFL.

Kaepernick had a right to protest and become a media martyr. Fans had a right to find the whole thing distasteful. So did NFL owners, who are under no legal obligation to sign any particular player.

They didn’t need a double-secret memo to avoid Kaepernick. All they needed was common sense.

That said, if Kaepernick never plays again it will indeed prove that he was blackballed.

But it wasn’t the NFL that did it.

Kaepernick has blackballed himself.
