But I don't need to know that to understand that crackers do cracker shit

And that shit is unacceptable

And exactly what can you do about their unacceptable shit?

Knowing which country your bloodline comes from is different from knowing your culture knowing your culture can affect how you deal with crackers doing cracker shit.

by making sure that my daily contributions aka money, time, and votes don't support cracker shit

Knowing the motherland does not educate me on how my congressman votes

But being involved in my community so that collectively we make decisions that show our power will

Y'all confuse educational opportunities with action orientated opportunities

Again knowing things is nice and worth time

But knowing that has no bearing on the other

Like i stated earlier, it came along the discourse... i didn't participate on it however. You honestly believe your votes and action oriented attitude is the one that will bring about the change? I'm sorry to say it's an empty rhetoric and as much as i hate the academia here, our purchasing power has increased through academia. It is where the change will come about and where our people need to focus on....

purchasing power means nothing if everything you purchase comes from outside your community.

education alone will fix nothing there are tons of blacks with degrees black people still have very little real power

Education is a start brah, real start! It'll lead to other avenues (businesses). For now, we're still spending our paychecks on expensive/luxurious things we don't need

lmao

Y'all quick to throw up pics of blacks picketing and getting attacked

And shit on the very reason they were out there

Voting rights

Yes votes matter

Even whites understand that much (cc tea party)

So let's talk priorities

1. Most young adults regardless of race unable to create life of their own because of the current economy. It's especially for black men. Labor/public works jobs that have historically have helped in times like this are either being held up or ignored. how do you effect that change by telling these jobless men which country their bloodline is from.

2. Protection of our voting rights are literally vanishing, so that even you educated yourself to know how to make change through legislation you can't

3. Legislation is quickly passing that makes it ok to shoot an unarmed person, of course these laws are applied unfairly. How other than getting people who repeal these laws in the right positions, do you think those laws can change.

I'm for education but the 1st education you should get is on how the country you live in works, because that's called survival, then you can move on to other things and actually be effective and not some talking head

everything you say is fine for the individual but those rules don't always apply for the group no amount of higher education is going to save black people. i know black men who have stated businesses with no education, brains are needed but our hearts are not where they should be.

Your either ignorant or a liar to deny the effect of White supremacy on the socioeconomics of African Americans. Ive said it before and i'll say it again: African Americans are in the most uniquely challenging circumstance of any minority on the planet. We are in a country that is not our own, yet the only homeland and heritage we have ever known. We have no foreign support system in the form of a particular culture, language, religion, or national/ethnic background (barring the second hand adoption of the monolithic Africa as the motherland as a lot of us are wont to do) and we remain in the very land that not only enslaved us, but defined our very existence here as beneath everyone else's.

However, to sit here and wait for society to right its wrongs and primarily using our energy trying to hold the system accountable is futile. No society in the history of humanity has all of a sudden realized "well shit, I just thought about it and these minorities have a fucking point here. Lets end all systems of privilege, bigotry, and supremacy!!!"

.....So while I understand the point of pointing out all the injustices, biases, and discrepancies that exist within our society; its ultimately pointless.

I hate Israel and i'm very critical of the streak of Zionism that has infiltrated US foreign policy, but I always give the Jews props. Throughout history they got shit on by EVERYONE. And what did they do? Sat back, organized, promoted education, unity, pursuing a lifelong trade in essential markets (law, finance, media, real estate, tech) and now that they have immense wealth and influence, they are able to push forward all of their collective agendas and concerns.

THAT is the model African Americans should mimic. Fuck all of this pity party shit. Yes, the world is against us. It has been for a very long time. The game will never be fair, so gain enough power and influence to change the game yourself.

The jews assimilated like a mug though, are you saying black people should take that hit now and plot to further their agenda?

Good post

Yep, im saying exactly that.

Shit its not even JUST the jews; look at the successful Arabs, Red dot Indians, Asians, Africans, and Muslims in the US; those motherfuckers assimilate like hell. Get great jobs, live in White neighborhoods, send their kids to White schools where they become indistinguishable from White kids.....But they still remember where they came from, will hold onto their significant cultural roots (like yeah little Lisa Park might love Big Time Rush and wear nothing but Abercrombie, but still will speak fluent Korean at home), and still be tied into the significant cultural aspects that they face here in the US.

You gotta know when to hold em and fold em.

I understand where u comin from... and im not trying to say that some of the shyt you saying is not true..

but have you ever befriended a Arab, red dot indian or Asian?

my best friend is half Lao and half Hmong her dad and mom are 1st generation.. and the issues they had in their family about "American culture" is crazy.. she didn't kno the native language very well.. only knew how 2 say " im hungry/ whats 4 dinner" she was WAY more American then Asian and her parents couldn't understand why...

I kno a red dot indian now she is a lil more in tune with her culture then my best friend but says the racism she face growing up in a all white city was crazy... to the point people would spray paint her car if it was outside the garage.. even do shyt to her house..

and I went to school with a chick that looked indian/arab ( she was from another place tho) and was a beautiful girl (easily the finest chick in the school imo) but if you got 2 kno her she was the whitest acting chick.. and was quick to tell you although she knew about her roots really didn't care like her parents did..

I have a friend who is black and she works with native Africans that live in Seattle... she specifically works with them on family issues.. and she says the kids start 2 rebel around 13/14 because the parents are scared about the kids losing their roots so they bytch about everything the kid does from how they dress to the music they like.. she says its an on going struggle on both sides...

Dont be a assjack. hes saying take the sense of community/ empowerment that the jews have held fast to..They didnt fully assimilate because shit.. they have JEWISH HOLIDAYS and by and large they keep their culture at the forefront.. however they don't have the burden we have..

Naw i was saying that haha

But I feel you can assimilate to move seamlessly/under the radar and at the same time hold on to your cultural/ethnic identity.

Lol well i edited.. ..

and we cant "ASSIMILATE"

we are from the same prevailing culture/ country we are more alike than different and we largely share the same values.. So what else is there..we cant wash of this blackness and "ASSIMILATION" does nothing to change their perception of us.. I dont want to be equal i want to be accepted or at the least not burdened by their idiotic ideas about us

That is gospel. After my first post in this thread, I was thinking of ways that AAs can broaden our wealth and influence in similar aspects to the Jews, Latinos, etc....Food service came to mind as (and Im speaking from where I live in Louisville), food carts/trailers serving authentic and fresh Mexican food are really popular right now and I thought well thats a start.......

Until it dawned on me that a lot of the food that Black people cook, WHITE PEOPLE i.e. larger society cooks as well. And the more soul food elements (like greens, pig feet, corn bread, etc.) are actually looked down upon by a good portion of society. Mexican and other ethnic foods still have that perception of "exotic foreign food" and the tastes are still new to a lot of society....Its literally a microcosm for race relation. Blacks are relatively "old news" here in the states.....whereas other ethnicities and races are "new" and "different"....thus making it more difficult to assimilate because you don't even know what you have to change to "fit in" so to speak.

the reason we eat snoot, pig feet, chitlins and shyt like that is cuz white people gave us the "scraps" to eat.. on certain plantations we wasn't allowed 2 eat " good food"

so blacks found ways to cook said food to make it tastes more presentable...

not to go off track but most other cultures have similar foods they eat. i can't think of anything that we eat that other cultures don't eat.

mexicans eat cow stomach (menudo) and other scrap pieces from pigs and cows.

i know a lot of and have many associates/friends that are vietnamese, thai, cambodian, from laos etc. anyway they eat pig intenstines but they don't call it chitlins, pig snout, tripe which is cow stomach, and a lot of other scrap pieces of animals. they eat a lot of stuff that i flat out refuse to eat.

Naw i was saying that haha

But I feel you can assimilate to move seamlessly/under the radar and at the same time hold on to your cultural/ethnic identity.

But also the question is: what do we mean by assimilate? Because some see shopping at the Gap as assimilating.

I don't think african americans have a good grasp of what their cultural/ ethnic identity is they seem to just want to be american but america often rejects them.

They have a culture me thinks....its within but has been suppressed to embrace an unattainable one. I find that southern blacks have a cultural heritage akin to Africans...

They do have a culture but i don't think they are always grounded in it in the same way that east indians, africans and asians are grounded.

We do its just not tethered to a place.... our identity via our struggles are a great deal of our culture and the makeshift culture we made...

every culture is a makeshift culture to be clear..

Ok, but if african american culture is defined by the struggle of surviving slavery and then by the struggle to get rid of jim crow then what is the struggle now? is it to get rich. how do you guys see yourselves now as americans or as people struggling to overcome america.

America like every other country is imperfect.. we are Americans who are African.. and i said our struggles are apart of our culture not the entirety

So you see yourself as a dark skinned americans but american culture does not like dark skinned african people. Don't you think this viewpoint would create tension within a people Or are you saying that american is your nationality and not your culture.

America is my nationality and my culture is what I make of it and what my ancestors fiery strength that kept them alive and strong after a long war.

Blacks are only 13% of the US population, yet we're the only group of ppl that the media chooses to constantly scrutinize. Negative studies and stats about Blacks are broadcast on national news segments and the media is always so quick to display this information. But Whites are the majority of the population, but you wont ever see the media reporting on how most serial killers and pedophiles are white men or why the # of white women in prison is growing faster than ever. This tap dancing clown ass nigga did not need to go on national news and spew our dirty laundry and reinforce stereotypes to these crackas.

Good post

Dont be a assjack. hes saying take the sense of community/ empowerment that the jews have held fast to..They didnt fully assimilate because shit.. they have JEWISH HOLIDAYS and by and large they keep their culture at the forefront.. however they don't have the burden we have..

Naw i was saying that haha

But I feel you can assimilate to move seamlessly/under the radar and at the same time hold on to your cultural/ethnic identity.

Now this makes sense.

^this

That's why these little local and state elections are important! Do you guys realise how fucked up shit was when President Obama ran for president? That's why I get mad at people like Don Lemon for saying what he said. There's so much shit changing right now and we don't even know it! Remember how white folks were mad because "black people were just voting for Obama because he's black"? The black race gets beat down and criticized so much man.. but hey, black folks don't do shit but make babies and collect welfare checks right? Black folks are too lazy to vote right? FOH.

Well once again, people are uneducated on the unique status of African Americans. All they see is the success stories and gradual acclimation of wealth/status that other minority groups are attaining contrasted with the disproportionate amount of crime, poverty, and lack of educational attainment that exists within the Black community, and we're the second oldest, yet most definitive minority group within the country. If you don't know the details (which most don't), its a really bad look.

But im not naive either. For all this post racial America bullshit, you get the feeling that even if the script were flipped, Blacks would still be hated and resented on some level. Like GTFOH with all of this criticism and studies and consisting harping on the state of Blacks; shit aint all altruistic. Some of it is rooted in pure, passed down disgust of Blacks.

Lemon just trying to distance himself from poor niggas. He already said he grew up well to and uppity, to me it was more contempt than constructive. Seemed like he was in the business of self

Promotion.

That being said, black men gotta step up and lead our communities.
