Updated: Omega Mode is meant to be fun, not balanced; update v1.04 inbound, fixes unintentional nerfs and PC online issues

Updated: Combofiend posted his latest blog entry over on Capcom Unity which divulges more information on the upcoming Omega Mode in Ultra Street Fighter 4. According to the Capcom representative, this new mode has a much heavier emphasis on fun than it does balance. The development team mainly focused on making all 44 characters feel new.

The upcoming game mode will be playable online, but only in an non-ranked setting. We can expect more information on Omega Mode as it surfaces.

This blog entry also states that a new patch is heading our way in October. The v1.04 update will fix the unintentional nerfs made to Decapre, Rolento, and Cody in the previous update, and will also add a Delayed Wake Up option to training mode. Additionally, a number of PC online connectivity issue fixes are being made, such as players receiving pings mid-match, causing slowdown.

A full breakdown for the v1.04 patch will be unveiled closer to the update's release.

Earlier: Over at Tokyo Game Show 2014 tonight, Capcom announced a new game mode set to be added to Ultra Street Fighter 4. This fresh content is called "Omega Mode."

In Omega Mode, characters gain access to a wide array of new, crazy special moves and changes. Ken can shoot fireballs from a kick special move, Guile throws three Sonic Booms in succession for 7 hits, and much more.

Below we have added a video breakdown of this new mode.

World exclusive premiere -- Omega Mode.

New moves, new properties, and new additions. An original edition so special it could be called a different game.

their greed for character DLC killed it. im glad it happened, hopefully they learn next time. also the pandering with the noob mechanics was really lame.

More Omega USF4 footage: Honda has salt throwing attack and new charging move - Ryu has a parry

Some new Ultra Street Fighter 4 footage of Omega mode has surfaced from Capcom. The development team rolls through new additions that E. Honda and Blanka have, along with a handful of other cast members.

In Blanka's case, his vertical roll travels straight up, and has a follow up air attack if it connects.

E. Honda also has a new series of attacks as he charges forward, and he can also throw salt at his opponent, which barely does any damage.

Ryu also shows off his parry skills against Chun-Li.

The Omega USF4 footage starts at the 26 minute 20 second mark.

Blanka has a teleport that deals damage, Sagat's EX Tiger Raid does 9 hits - Daigo and Mago test out Ultra Street Fighter 4's Omega Mode

Yesterday at Tokyo Game Show 2014, Capcom unveiled their brand new, upcoming Ultra Street Fighter 4 DLC, Omega Mode. We have since seen images and even video footage of the free content in action, but now we get to see a bit more.

During their presentation at the expo, Capcom brought in MCZ|Daigo and MCZ|Mago to give Omega Mode a whirl on stage. The two pro players tested out Ryu and Sagat against the Capcom devs, and we get to see some new tricks from a handful of characters.

For example, Blanka is used in one of the matches, and we see that in Omega Mode, the king of the jungle has a teleport move that actually hits on it's way up. This move acts much like Spinal's Shadow Skeleport in Killer Instinct.

Additionally, Sagat's Tiger Raid from Street Fighter Alpha 3 makes a return, and the EX version deals 9 hits.

You can check out the full presentation below, and the video embed will jump you straight to the Daigo and Mago footage.

Daigo vs. Nemo, Justin Wong; Tokido vs. Jayce the Ace; Mago vs. Mike Ross - Relive the Mad Catz exhibition matches from Tokyo Game Show

Apart from a 64-man single elimination Ultra Street Fighter 4, over the weekend at the Tokyo Game Show, Mad Catz also arranged for four exhibition matches between some of the most popular names on the competitive circuit: MCZ|Daigo vs. BE|Nemo, MCZ|Daigo vs. EG|Justin Wong, MCZ|Tokido vs. YBK|Jayce the Ace, and MCZ|Mago vs. Twitch|Mike Ross.

If you've missed the exhibition matches, fret not, for the Mad Catz team have worked extra hard after disassembling their booth at the end of the Tokyo Game Show to upload the moments on their YouTube channel, so you don't have to scroll through an entire day's stream archive just to get to the moment you want to see.

everybody says the shit is unsafe but I seriously never punish it lol, I tried Ryus sweep and Yuns lunge punch and Cammys spiral arrow/ultra all moves that are supposed to punish it lol

I do think you are supposed to STAND block so its less pushback on block, its the same idea as punishing Blankas ball you block standing and its easier to punish

Capcom's Ayano on why Omega Edition is not being developed as a brand new Street Fighter game, but as a bonus mode for Ultra Street Fighter 4

28_omegamode.jpg

With new moves for all 44 characters in Ultra Street Fighter 4's playable roster, as well as vastly different properties for many of their existing moves, Omega Edition is quite a departure from previous updates to the SF4 series.

So why did Capcom decide to release Omega Edition as an additional mode for USF4, rather than use the ideas for a completely brand new installment in the Street Fighter franchise instead? Doesn't that sort of betray fan expectations, for those who are eagerly anticipating a brand new title in the Street Fighter franchise?

That's the question Famitsu.com had for Capcom's assistant producer for Ultra Street Fighter 4 Tomoaki Ayano, when they caught up with him and USF4 producer Koichi Sugiyama at the sidelines of Mad Catz's Tokyo Game Show tournament.

"As we continue to develop and refine the Street Fighter series, we feel that there's probably a group of people out there who think that the improvements and changes are getting increasingly narrow-minded and dull," Ayano told Famitsu.

"So we've been thinking about how we could break away from that narrow-mindedness. And as we were doing that we realized that this time around, rather than implement all these vastly different changes as part of a new installment of the series, we could instead debut the changes as a mode within Ultra Street Fighter 4's Edition Select, and observe how all the players would react to that."

In other words, by releasing it as a bonus mode, Omega Edition appears to be a less risky way for Capcom to make drastic changes to the Street Fighter series -- when compared to making a drastically different new installment of the franchise, like what they did with the Street Fighter Alpha or Street Fighter 3 games -- that allows them to gather user feedback on what players find interesting.

While it's not quite the new Street Fighter game a lot of fans have been waiting for, that new title is probably already in the works as we speak -- so if anything, Omega Edition is really an extra bonus that Capcom is throwing in to tide us over until the next major installment.

"And as we're distributing Omega Edition free-of-charge, please do give it a shot once it's out," Ayano adds.

A release window for Ultra Street Fighter 4's Omega Mode DLC patch has been unveiled for the first time. The Omega Mode patch will be headed your way sometime in Winter 2014, Capcom announced today at their "The World of Capcom" panel at the New York Comic-Con.

As with last year, EventHubs correspondent Jason24cf is at the New York Comic-Con covering it for us, and he brings us this image from Capcom's panel today:

Other than a Winter 2014 release window, Capcom also confirmed that Omega Mode will be playable online in unranked lobbies.

They also reiterated that a separate, earlier patch would be coming later this month for Ultra Street Fighter 4 that will undo the unintended changes made to Rolento and Decapre, fix a few bugs, as well as vastly improve the online play environment for the PC version of the game.
