Maybe TheLaureate is projecting Canibus a bit more seriously than he warrants. The fact remains though, Canibus has truly given as much as he can for what he loves, lives and dies to do. And in the true sense of what the "Artform" should illicit in people, at least he should be considered on his content and what he offers in his catalog.

Where we're at right now though, that's no longer the case. People seem to just pass extremely idiotic judgement, bypassing any artistic expression to shit on artists who are really about the artform, Hip Hop. Yet they turn around and project those who appear to have a lack of talent as being nice.....

I guess what I'm trying to say is, the average rap/hip-hop fan these days are so below what is required for the art to be taken seriously, that artists such as Canibus, Kendrick Lamar, Slaughterhouse, Tech Nine, Immortal Technique (and the list goes on) can not get their offerings appreciated accordingly.

The other day on Shade 45, someone sent in a song to be listened to and critiqued. The guy was going off with Lyrics, beat was on point and the overall presentation was produced well. The cats at the radio station even said the same thing.... yet, they all turned around and gave the track a thumbs down because as one of the dj's said, "it was great and all, but I don't want to sit and listen to 5 minutes of lyrics, no matter how dope it is."

That's where we're at now and that's why Hip Hop is disrespected to the level it is: the audience.

Last thing, I bet most won't even read this whole post because upon first glance it'll appear to be too long. That's called a loss.

Great first post, welcome to the IC. Thing is, and this is the same reason a lot of people think T/S is Canibus... his attitude kinda ruins his music, which isn't really that bad. He swears to God everything he does is some revolutionary shit, like Rakim and them didn't do it before him. And just like I pointed out earlier in the thread, this album is nothing more than an updated Serato or some other mixing and editing program. Props to him for doing it, but a lot of fans are simply turned off by his arrogance and patronizing. And fuck outta here with that $75 shit.

Granted, people ain't tryna sit down and listen to 5 minutes of straight bars (I got a 200 bar song coming out, I'm preparing for the backlash myself), but if you a humble cat, and acknowledge the fans as more than empty cells to stuff information into, they'll be willing to listen. Jay and Nas can spit 100+ bars if they want to, cuz they got the music to back it up. 20+ years in the game, Canibus has still yet to drop an album for the people, rather than for himself.

Don't put words in his mouth, quote me where he said that. If you seen his interviews you would see that he's humble and real nice guy. There's nothing wrong with his attitude, he's the most compassionate rapper I ever seen. You seriously know nothing about his personality.

Even in his song on Mic Club he admitted there's always gonna be someone other than him with better shit.

like Rakim and them didn't do it before him.

Rakim made an infinite rhyme? Rakim had lyrics about philosophy, science, politics, astrobiology, and esotericism? Yeah, Rakim set the bar high for lyricism, but lets not act like he spits the same kinda lyrics as Bis.

And just like I pointed out earlier in the thread, this album is nothing more than an updated Serato or some other mixing and editing program.

False. It is an album with songs already made. However, he has packaged his vocals in such a way so that any person who isn't saavy can mix his lyrics. The other thing you don't understand is that he creates layered verses that are structured in such a way that the verses rhyme schemes match up.

And it's ironic people say that it's unstructured when it's beyond structured than most ordinary verses.

Props to him for doing it, but a lot of fans are simply turned off by his arrogance and patronizing.

Once again, you are false. You have no clue what youre saying, you look retarded right now.

"So what you saying, he's arrogant? Youre mistaken

Only the music and words are ravaging and raging"

-- Canibus (2012 A.D.)

Didn't you see his statement after the battle? I would argue that Canibus is by far the most humble and compassionate person in the rap game period.

Look at his statement following the battle:

Canibus: "First time I've had a separated shoulder but I am expecting a full recovery in time. Also continuing work on the Rip The Jacker 2 DVD. Will continue to keep you all updated as things happen. Don't really know what to say concerning all these blogs, parodies, and fake accounts posting apologies about god knows what but I am moving forward for my Rippers and Hip Hop as best as I can. Thank You for your good wishes and encouragement. Sometimes people need laughter and entertainment at the expense of others embarrassment but Hip Hop means so much to me I don't care. Diz is the champ. Please be kind to one another and don't forget we are all family in this Hip Hop Community whether we know it or not."

And fuck outta here with that $75 shit.

You aren't thinking about the content. It's 9 albums of content. That means he's giving you $150.00 value for $75.

Rip the Jacker, Melatonin Magik, Lyrical Law, Def Con Zero, For Whom the Beat Tolls, what more do you want? Those are for everybody.

If ur not Canibus, then answer me one thing: Do you gargle after you swallow?

Wait so youre telling me that we should scorn artists who put a lot of time, effort, hard work, and creativity into their albums and giving fans a bunch of material we can enjoy? You people are all backwards.

Again, you can listen to however many songs you want. It's not going to be 50 one-hundred bar marathon songs. His first single from the album has a chorus and 3 verses like a normal song.

I lost all respect for dude after I seen him whip out the notepad in battle against that one white/arab dude. SMMFH.....

Except that never happened. He whipped out the notepad AFTER he forfeited the battle. He wasnt using the notepad to battle, he was trying to give the fans a live studio session.

This trolling is getting out of hand...

Oh, so no Canibus fans exist. Anyone who is a Bis fan is a troll. You prolly think AZ and Wu Tang fans are trolls too. No way a real person could be a fan of state of the art hip hop, it can't be!

False. He reused the scheme, not the words.

in dat battle he said to Dizaster "Ima let da world kno da truth u dont want me to shine, u study my rhymes then lay ya vocals after mine" wat exactly did he switch? lmao

Great first post, welcome to the IC.

Thanks. I've been looking to actually join a discussion for some time now.

Props to him for doing it, but a lot of fans are simply turned off by his arrogance and patronizing. And fuck outta here with that $75 shit.

I agree with that notion. The arrogant crap that passes for confidence in rap is patronizing. I remember a track called "The Rules" by Saigon. In the beginning of the song, he says to Statik Selektah "I wrote all those raps 'cause I was in jail and I didn't have nothing to do. Now that I have things to do, writing raps is last on my priority list." That shit always irked me. On one hand, you're submitting this song for fans to appreciate and it's a great beat from Statik Selektah. On the other hand, you're talking about that song and the other songs on the album as if it's throw away trash, just an after-thought. Only in the Hip Hop community is that supposed to pass for something positive. Yet, you get mad when someone downloads the shit you have last on your priority list? Just saying.

Granted, people ain't tryna sit down and listen to 5 minutes of straight bars (I got a 200 bar song coming out, I'm preparing for the backlash myself), but if you a humble cat, and acknowledge the fans as more than empty cells to stuff information into, they'll be willing to listen.

I can say this. I'm hardwired to appreciate creativity, lyrics, the beat, the meaning in a song, etc. That's not to say I'd like everything, but I approach things with an opened mind and look to see where the artist is coming from. That being said, I'd be happy to hear what those 200 bars sound like, if you ever post a link.

Canibus is NOT arrogant.

"So what you saying, he's arrogant? Youre mistaken
