I actually liked New Yorkers no nonsense attitudes. It's refreshing, and I guess because we came from England the prices didn't seem too steep (however my mother did notice that cigarettes in L.A were like 5 dollars and in NYC 11 dollars).
I would say though, even though I love that city, there is a 'rat race' feeling. I can't quite explain it.
I don't like Brooklyn though. People look mad 24/7.
