I been to NY and got family that live there. All of them live int he projects because of the cost of living.NY is better as a tourist attraction if you cannot afford the cost of living.Only born NYers like it and will claim that there is no better place to live. Also why leave the sunny days of Miami for the cold and grimey days you will face in the winter of NY.The driving is congested too.

On some real shit, I moved here two-and-a-half months ago (I moved to Brooklyn - Crown Heights - from Wilmington, Delaware). After living here about a month, I wrote a blog on my experiences here. I'll post it here. Hope you take some introspective from it:

So, I told you all I would try to share what my senses have experienced while living in the "The Big Apple" for the past month.

Some of it will be nice, some it I'm pretty sure some will be harsh, all of it will be 100% true. Not to offend any native New Yorkers, but if people are seriously thinking of moving up here, they should learn what it's really like to live in New York City. So here goes....

Observation #1 - There are two major clothes industries here that are making a killing: for the men, it's Yankees hats. For the women, it's black stretch pants. Look, I know the Yankees are the darling of the city and a national "icon", but even I wouldn't have guessed about one out of every four fitted hats I see have that logo on it. As for the stretch pants, I'm convinced that every woman here has at least three pairs on deck. (Not that I'm complaining. Most women here really know how to rock stretch pants...and they do it well.)

Observation #2 - It's no secret that NYC is one of the filthiest places in the country....and it's alot more than the subways. There are many neighborhoods outside of Manhattan (or in Manhattan, especially Harlem or 34th St.) that make you wonder how people actually are cool with living in their own filth. Example: Nostrand Ave. My God, I know 3rd St in Wilmington needs work, I'm aware that alot of streets in a many metro cities can get dirty due to over-consumption, but I swear, EVERY time I walk to catch a train, I feel like the prince of a landfill. Trash day here, I know there's a ton of apartments, but it would really do some good to get cans out in front of the buildings, not just tossing the trash bags at the curb. However, what really irks me is that most of grimiest places in NYC are places where...."minorites" live. C'mon, black people. We really have to do better. No wonder why the rats in the subways are as big as baby kittens, and they wind up on the platform...ALOT.

Observation #3 - There are some absolutely beautiful parks here. Prospect Park and Central Park in particular. If you walk through them on a nice Saturday or Sunday, looking at all the families out enjoying them will make you really appreciate the value of life and nature. It really is a wonderful thing to see.

Observation #4 - NYC may be a 24-hr city, but that's because mostly what's open after 2AM are bodegas (corner stores). Not too many bars are open, and the ones that are have last call around 1:30. Guess city government doesn't want everyone walking around, half-drunk at 4 in the morning...

Observation #5 - The place is safer than I thought. Mainly because the police are EVERYWHERE. And I mean they are out: on bikes, in cars, hell, they roll in 15-passenger vans and post up on the block, like 6 deep. If they're are corner boys in Brooklyn, I haven't found them. Seriously.

Observation #6 - The rubix-cube-like puzzle that is the NYC Subway map. Actually, it may first appear to look like linguine, but If you really take a look at it, it's not so hard to figure and get somewhere. I learned the best way to find something here...get yourself LOST. Then, that place just pops up.

Observation #7 - Yes, there is a HUGE homeless problem. I feel like there are days I have to pay a toll just to get on the subway. There is a solution for this - headphones and sunglasses. No one really approaches you when you have the appearance that:

a) You're not looking at them

b) You're not listening to them

Observation #8 - One of the coolest things about NY, is that you truly don't need a car here. In fact, I think actually having a car in any borough not named Queens will cost your alot more than it should with paying insurance, fighting for parking spots (then having to move it twice a week for street cleanings, the $4 gas, million ways to get a ticket). $104 for a 30-day pass on the subway...best insurance policy I've ever had. Besides, most neighborhood have everything you need to function within eight blocks or less. Honestly, I can go outside, turn a corner, and within 10 minutes of that corner, there's two laundromats, a dry cleaners, three barbers shops, five corners stores, four LQ stores, Chinese restaurants, a West Indian restaurant, Indian restaurants, a cheesesteak shop (THANK GOD, cause NYers can't make a cheesesteaks for BLEEP, but this guy's originally from Philly) a supermarket (but I don't go there. The good one's up a couple of blocks) and like six designer stores with fitted hats, sneakers, and everything else. Convience...the name of the game.

Observation #9 - Yes, it IS expensive. Most of the stuff here is marked up 25% just because. Add on tax to that and....yeah. I honestly see why people live in Jersey and work in NY now. For the salaries they pay to keep up with the cost of living, it's almost worth it.

Observation #10 - New Yorkers are very observant to everything. You kinda have to be here. You have to almost walk around with eyes behind your head at all times. However - and this is my BIGGEST beef with this place - there is a severe lack of compassion for your fellow man here, almost like 85% of the people here are totally soulless to anyone else that isn't blood-related to them. With all the people, cultures, tribes, beliefs, this place truly defines "every man for yourself". I guess due to all the crime, beggars, hustlers, scammers, and everything else, damn near everyone's heart gets a little harder just to endure this concrete jungle on a daily. I know that this place is not for the meek, but I have already seen firsthand that it's not for the pure-hearted either. Nice people don't finish last here...they just don't finish. So, if you are going to live here, my only advice is you have to be a little colder, a little cynical, and little more thicker-skinned.

Lol I'm a queens/nassau cat so I only know certain spots of harlem through friends. But I knew once I hit the block it wasn't where I needed to be with my shorty.

Oh great point that y'all helped me realize. If you ain't from NY, DO NOT randomly google restaurants/use ya GPS to take you to food places. You'll end up like me on MLK lol. Luckily I knew of a diner type spot further downtown.

In Brooklyn, I've actually seen multiple fruit/vegetable stands open at 4am. shits crazy. they got no fear.

Niggas don't understand the serious level of the NYPD. I was just partying with some ppl that went to school out of state. Of course like dummies, they walk out the apartment with red cups in their hands. I kid you not, we were on the corner for 5 seconds and the D's pulled up.

Then after awhile, it just turns into your regular behavior towards EVERYBODY

First things first, nobody touches NY Chinese food. Its gotta be the grease.

Secondly, our cultural market game is top flight.
