replace 9+3 with x...

48÷2(x)= 48/2x = 24/x
so, if x= 9+3= 12
then, 24/x= 24/12= 2

Why have you assumed that (9+3) is in the denominator?

Unless grouped with the "2" by a set of parenthesis or explicitly shown under the fraction bar like in the above example, there is no reason to assume that (9+3) is in the denominator.

This is the mistake people are making.
