A&R stands for artist and repertoire. For record labels, the A&R reps are the people who find new artists and sign them to the label (although in reality, there may be more than one person involved in the decision to sign the musician to the label). A&R reps are the musicians' point of contact at the label during contract negotiations and they facilitate things like setting up the advance, booking recording sessions where required and anything else that needs to be done to act ready for release. They also play an important role in development of the artist - how the band will be marketing, sometimes choosing songs for the musicians to record if they don't write their own material and building a basic promotional foundation for the album and the band.

I guess he will oversee people in that position.

But why is he getting this job and he could not successfully develop an artist on his own label?

It is weird that an artist on Def jam which is universal would get a job at Atlantic which is Warner Brothers

Nah. The companies are all in bed with each other, so to speak.

This is interesting. Now we play the the waiting game. He's probably sending his CTE artists to Atlantic
Doubt it. It's just adding insult to injury if they do end up over there. Not only would they have no buzz (Gibbs has some) and a label head not doing much for them (Jeezy) but they would also have little to no creative control under (Trans)Atlantic (Slave Trade) Records.

It's about to snow over at Atlantic Records. That's because according to various reports Young Jeezy has been named Senior VP of A&R for the label.

Obviously Atlantic didn't have a problem with Jeezy being signed to one of their competitors, Def Jam. Jeezy has already shown that he has a good eye for talent having signed Freddie Gibbs, Tone Trump and others to his CTE imprint.

Congrats to the Snowman on his new gig.
