every black man in my life that has served in the military ,my father my uncle, my teacher said and i quote "don't go to those devils"" i served in the military for 12 years and got nothing for it" "the army is no place for a black man" same thing was said by tre in boyz in the hood when he was talking to doughboys brother. most blacks who enlist do it for a career move and not for patriotic reasons anyway. why would you consider yourself a patriot? why would you fight for a country that never loved you and shed the blood of your ancestors?

I have the utmost respect for all veterans that were in combat. I also respect the ones that were in non combat roles that sacrifice their time to serve. But I have seen and been around some mfer I wouldnt piss on if they were on fire.

I'm no hero and I'm a vet. Most of the military never seen live combat. Anyway, the biggest heroes in the black community are those working in the black community. Those are our true vets.

I'm not a hero. I'm a young man who didn't apply himself in highschool and set goals for himself out the gate like his siblings. I understand my mistakes and now see to making something out of myself when i get out. They get me for two more years but after that I can use the opportunity to get myself a higher education on the low.

I see no honour in fightin' for either of our armies, white or black. I hate the police with all my heart but at the army are worse.

They didnt fight for our rights and arent heroic just by serving .. but If you did your time honorably and admirably props given you were someones hero.

Not everyone who joins the military is a hero

Being away from your family and friends for extended periods of time ... Willing to risk your life ..... Going thru training..... Being in combat...Living in conditions I would not want to is admirable and always deserves recognition

I have family and friends that have fought and some who have died in combat

I have nothing but respect for them.

I was hidin out from like 3 different gangs and needed a paycheck and to get the fuck out LA for a while. Air Force recruiter caught me comin out a Panda Express and I was like fuck it lol. 3 months later I was gone

I almost joined the military. But i didnt know i needed my social security card at the enlist place. So i told homie that id be back. In my typical form back at that age. Thing about that "white man's army" Furious line is that black people have always been in the thick of it when this country goes to war. From Crispus Attucks to the Battle of New Orleans to 180,000 black men slaughtering confederates cacs to the Harlem Hell Fighters to the 761st "Black Panther" tank battalion to Tuskegee to 20 Medal of Honor winners in Vietnam.

"There has been no war fought by or within the United States in which African Americans did not participate"

why would you bleed for someone that never loved you? You could ask the same thing to most black pro athletes imho. Some niggas just looking for a check but others do want to fight and compete.

Even Garvey knew there was realistically never gonna be a mass exodus back to Africa. We're stuck with this country and its wars whether we like it or not.

Personally, I want as many African Americans as possible with military training. Just in case, hint hint.

I give props for serving, but fuck a lot of them after that. A lot of them act special like they've been in combat and ain't did shit. I thought about joining the military right out of high school until I saw Dead Presidents, niggas been serving forever just to come home to bullshit lives. I can still hear Martin Sheen shitting on Larenz Tate at the end for not serving in a "real" war before giving him Life in prison. My people told me they wouldn't let me go if the government reinstalled the draft, their ass said if I got drafted, they'd get me tore up off whiskey and push me off the side of the crib so I'd break a leg or something and become ineligible lol.

Military and cop are JOBS just like everything else people do to keep a roof over their head and clothes on their back. When people realize this (let's keep it real it's pretty much only white people that idolize them) the better off we'll be cuz the hero shit just puts it in their minds like these people are above reproach.

With that being said there are heroic soldiers that deserve to be recognized. But blindly just calling somebody a hero because they signed their name on a piece of paper is wack.

Lol...when I was in the Coast Guard our boat drove around in circles 4 2 weeks str8, in the Pacific Ocean. We did that atleast 4 times a year. It was called "Operation Box Opts".

We did have situations when we we weren't allowed to sleep for 36-48 hours str8. This was 2007. To this day, I can't sleep for more than 5 consecutive hours.

We seized 50 bells of coke once. Port calls in Cali, Canada & Mexico 6 times a year was nice.

Marching in the snow during Boot Camp. I know every branch has differences. As far as the Coast Guard, that was my experience. A whole bunch of bullshit. I regret it everyday.
